Contact lenses - a few questions

The eye doctor gave me a set to wear for two weeks and gave me the moisturizing solution. I forgot to ask him, are we supposed to keep these contacts in the little tray thing in the eye moisturizing solution?

He told me to wear them for only 4 hours today and 6 hours tomorrow and so forth. Is it ok if I wear them for 6 hours today?

I'm a total noob. I did ask him questions but these are the ones I didn't ask.

Thanks.

Yeah, keep them in the tray with the solution when you take them out.

You'll probably be fine if you wear them for 6 hours today. If they start getting irritating, take them out.

4 hours today and 6 hours tomororw? Are these 12-hour lenses? Yeah don't worry about it too much I've worn my 12-hours for 20+ and nothing's happened so far.

If you've never worn contacts before it's best to kind of ease your eyes into them. That's why he sort of ramps up the use over a couple days time.

If you're comfortable with more hours than what he said, then it should be alright.

As a word of caution, don't wear these overnight. It's possible and you won't die or anything, but the long-term effects aren't good for your eyes. There was a period where I didn't take my contacts out and then I realized there were some deposits left on my eyes where my contacts were supposed to be; I stopped wearing them for more than 24 hours after that.

Thanks guys for the responses. I'm approaching hour number 5 and about to take them off now. I'm not feeling anything weird, but I'll probably feel more comfortable with them after a while. Compared to my glasses, its taking a bit time to get used to them when driving. I preferred the glasses over the contacts when driving for some reason, but maybe I'll get used to them.

It seems like I saw more with my glasses while driving, do you guys share a similar experience?

LOL now I got to take them out. I had a hard time putting them on and taking them off at the eye center. Lets see how it goes now.

Thanks.

looks likes your questions have been answered. Don't try to be one of these "cool guys" who wears their 2 week disposable contacts for a month without taking them out even at night. It will cause problems in the future. I used to do that and ended up with so many infections in the past year that I just got the Lasik to avoid it altogether.

What kind of contact lenses are you using?

I wear mine around 10 hours everyday, but I've never tried going a day without taking them out.

You think it's bad now? Imagine what it used to be like. My dad was an optician long ago when contacts were very new and everyone wore hard lenses. He definitely has stories about people who used to leave their contacts in overnight without taking them out. I'll tell you as a warning, the removal stories don't sound very pleasant, although I'm sure this problem has diminished with newer lenses.

I'd save up and get surgery. I used to wear contacts all the time, but they never quite felt right for me. I could always feel them during the day and my eyes were always dry. Surgery was definitely worth it to me. You'll save money in the long run as well. I'd imagine you're not old enough though, just getting contacts, but definitely something to keep in mind.

Weird, I've always felt the opposite. I once pissed off this janitor back in high school when I used to wear glasses. He called me chicken-necked among some other insults and I realized there was some truth to that. I tended to turn my head to look at things straight on with the glasses. With my contacts I can get away with not turning my head so much.

It seems that way at first with your vision.. I thought I'd see better with my glasses back (long time wearer) but after a few weeks of contacts, going back to glasses was like looking in a convex mirror. You will love contacts much more I'm sure.

Just remember to keep them clean... if your eye burns, feels scratchy, take them out right away or moisturize them and see if that helps.

Also, avoid eye drops that aren't made for contacts (like regular visine, etc)

Whew, I just took them out - not as bad as I had expected. Now I have to put them back on tomorrow - lol.

I have the Amo Complete Moisture Plus kit, the one that the eye doctor gave me. There is a case for the left and right lens and you are supposed to put the solution in there with the lens. It says keep them in there for 4 hours, so thats what I'll do.

How do you guys feel about the color contact lenses? Are they the same as these? The eye doctor said that I have to come in next week to get the prescription and get a checkup and then I can buy the ones that I want.

Don't take them out until you are ready to put them back in your eyes. The 4 hours means you need to leave them in the solution at least that long to disinfect.

Perspective is going to be a little bit weird at first, since the contacts essentially change your vision to 20/20 as opposed to looking through two glass lenses. But you'll quickly get used to them. It's nice being able to look all the way left, all the way right, all the way up and down and still being able to see clearly

Actually, it still messes me up from time to time when I go straight from contacts back to glasses. I have to let my perspective adjust for a little bit.

Contacts don't change everyone vision to 20/20, I knew someone with contacts who had a vision of 20/150. And this is with contacts.

Ok, so is it ok if I wear my contacts tomorrow for 9+ hours?

I'm planning on wearing them to work and then taking them off when I get home. The eye doctor said wear them 4 hours the first day, which is today, and then move on up 2 hours per day. I don't know if I should do this.

If your eyes feel comfortable with them on after 6hrs tomorrow, keep them in then. He's only telling you to up the hours every day so your eyes adjust to having contacts on them.
