So i just started wearing contacts like two weeks ago and i dont know anything about them. So, that said; i also understand that people will have different reactions to different brands and whatnot, but i'de like to ask some questions anywho:

1) what brand do you find most comfortable?
2) what soaking solution do you use and why?
3) what moistening drops do you use and why?

me:
1) acuvue advance, but these are the only ones ive ever worn
2) renu and clear care, havent seen a diff yet, just what they gave me
3) i would tell you but i cant find them , lol

also, i've got a question about the clear care formular. Inside the box it came with a contact holder that ive never seen before, i would take pics but my cam is broken. but it looks like a 35mm film case and the contacts go into this little crate thing kind of like those plastic hat washers. but for some reason when the Clear care is in there it bubbles alittle bit...like sparkling water but not so much.

1) I've only used Acuvue. Started off a few years ago with the Toric lenses and now use the Acuvue Advanced for Astigmatism. Very comfortable.
2) Renu Multipurpose - no reason, always have used it. Eye doctor said if there are no problems, don't bother playing around with other solutions
3) Usually the Renu ones, sometimes Visine for Contacts, but I don't really need them anyway.

B&L PureVision is the one I'm currently using. For solution, I use Alcon Opti-free Express No Rub. I don't use moistening drops, never have since I've been wearing them (10+ years now). I hear you can just use solution as a moistening drop as well.

I just started wearing contacts too. My doc gave me Acuvue Oasis. They're pretty comfortable. I can kinda feel this cold dryish thing on my eye but it's not that noticeable.

Now my question is what the heck is the difference between Opti-Free Replenish and Opti-Free Express? Which should I use? And are the generics that do the same thing just as effective?

I do.

1) Acuevue 2
2) Equate (el cheapo) no-rub multipurpose solution
3) none

I used that clear care stuff years ago and I find that going the multipurpose route to be waaaaay better. Multipurpose solution can be used to disinfect the contacts and you don't have to wait a certain period of time to avoid burning your eyes out of their sockets. You do still have to wait like 4 hours for proper disinfection but the multipurpose solution doesn't irritate your eyes if you don't wait long enough. You can squirt it directly in your eye to dislodge irritants just like you can saline solution.

comfort is relative. i tried using acuvues when i first started but they didn't fit my eye, so i wore biomedics instead.

now:
1. o2 optix, one of the gas permeable kind of lenses. 2 weeks a pair.
2. i've used renu norub forever, and i'm not going to switch
3. i use renu drops.

1) Ciba Night and Days... I like them a lot better than my old Focus monthlies, plus I don't have to take them out every night.
2) Ciba Clear Care
3) Renu for sensitive eyes

The clear care bubbles, because it is reacting with the metal piece at the bottom of the holder to produce those bubbles. I'm not sure, but I suspect the solution contains hydrogen peroxide.

1) Focus Dailies
2) None, I toss 'em at night
3) Don't need them, can't even tell I'm wearing them.

I highly recommend the Focus Dailies if you can afford them, they're $45 for a 90 pack online. IMO, the extended wear contacts start to dry out and get uncomfortable after 4-5 days.

The bubbling is just the platinum disc neutralizing the peroxide in the solution. DO NOT USE this solution without the proper case, the peroxide will not be neutralized and you'll be in for a painful surprise. Also make sure you give at least 6hours for the neutralization to occur.

I may have this all wrong and be thinking of a different solution.

Are you wearing hard or soft lenses?

Thought clear care was for hard lenses.. oh well not sure.

1: Acuvue Advance. I used to wear Biomedics - rugged as hell, but would make my eyes extremely tired at night if I had them on.
2: Opti Free Express - No Rub
3: Hardly ever use them, but these drops by Alcon. Dont have them on me so I cant tell u the name.

I use Bausch & Lomb lenses, with Amo Complete Moisture solution. I don't use any drops because, believe it or not, I can't stand drops hitting my eyeballs. Don't have any problem sticking my finger in my eye, but god forbid liquid drops hit my eyes.

i use what ever lenses the doc recommends or gives me, i use the no rub express solution stuff, usually the knock off brand, and i don't use lubrication drops

in my last visit the doc said if you use the no rub solution you should take out the contacts rub them a bit then put them in the container to soak, no need to rub them before you put them in the next day

I guess I'm guilty.. ::raises hand::

Clearcare is the best solution by far. No preservatives FTW. 6 hour soaking period or else you burn your eyes FTL though

I've tried at least 5 different brands of contacts. Not 1 of them agreed with my eyes. They'd dry out, I'd see blurry, or would just irritate them all day long. This includes Acuvue2, O2 Optix, Ciba night n day, bausch & lamb, etc.

Horrible experience with contacts and I tried them for 2 months. It's so frustrating!
