I live just outside of Washington and this is just fscking INSANE. How else can you describe it? Every five minutes, I hear about another explosion or bomb threat. Planes are being hijacked, bombs are going off, everyone is speculating about whether we shot down the plane in PA and who is behind all this. This is just surreal.

What I can't believe is what happened to The Pentagon. I thought they would have a lot of security/defenses.

Dad works for the federal government here in Canada. He told me to pick him up quick and he's at home right now.

CN Tower has been evacuated, Toronto Stock Exchange plummetted and was closed. My friend just called from the financial district (he works for an insurance company) and says all financial transactions have been halted and most of Bay St. is heading home...

And this isn't even in a country directly hit by this attack.

i agree that it's stupid to suggest we get out the nukes & declare war on some third-world nation but ...

we MUST go after the organization that is responsible for this with the full force and might of the us miltary & covert ops. we must hunt them down WHEREEVER they are and eliminate them all. we must make anyone who ever contemplates this again clearly aware that if they do everything they are "fighting" for will be lost.

and, yes, it does have bin laden written all over it. time for the marines to make a little trip to afgahnistan ... !

LATEST NEWS: A United Airlines plane has crashed into Camp David, according to CBS, and a jet has crashed 80 miles south of Pittsburgh. Broadcast reports say several planes are missing.

Also I offer my personal feelings to all of you over there. Was reeling with shock when I just came home and heard the news.

Dutch security experts suspect not only Bin Laden, but also Afghanistan and Irak because of the scale of this.

The middle east has been saying for a long time it was gonna come down on the USA for its support of Israel and its finally happened.

We may have massive military might and the unquestionable ability to completely demolish anyone that we (unreservadly) commit that might to exterminating, but this is a TERRORIST attack. We're not talking about a country with a clear central command and clear military force.

If we strike out as if it were, we may eliminate some of the culprits, but we will also take the lives of countless people who, though they may hate us and pray for our downfall, were innocent in this attack. This would make us little more than terrorists ourselves.

Terrorism is gorrilla warfare on the international scale. It's effective because its difficult to prevent and, when it happens, its hard to determine who is responsible and even harder to find them to retaliate.

NOBODY will complain if we wipe the guilty parties off the map. But we MUST be certain about who that is before we start sending in the marines or the F18s. Otherwise, we become what we despise.

Pretty hard to defend our key points in our country. especially when they are so spread out. And I think they actuallly started to think about defense for this sort of thing in the 60s..

hope this doesnt come across as heartless cause my heart really goes out to the families of all the victims out there.

historically Americans have always responded well to crisis or tragedy, meaning, we will see an end to the recession as a result of this tragedy, recessions are usually a function of peoples expectations, a tragedy like this gets our minds off our economic status and on the task at hand, in this case the rebuilding of the towers, the cleanup, etc etc will actually revitalize a sagging economy.

Mb it's just me looking at the silver lining, i'm not saying that what happened was a good thing, i'd never say that, but overall there will be a positive effect on the economy.

You want a free society? You don't want to have "papers" required for travel and all your bags searched at every state line? You want personal privacy?

The only way to effectively prevent this kind of terrorism is the suspension of personal liberty.

Why didn't they predict this would happen? Because there are just too many targets and ways that a terrorist can execute an attack - especially if they are well armed, well financed and well motivated.

We as Americans are not willing to accept the level of inconvenience to our daily lives that seriously heightened security at airports and transit centers would require. We all bitch out getting the govt out of our affairs, out of our business, out of our pockets and out of our lives and then we are shocked when we cannot be better protected from individual crazies.
