Continuum - 'where the good guys at?

Anyone else watching Continuum here and rooting for the terrorists?

Plot

Vancouver City Protective Services (CPS) Protector Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols) is transported from the year 2077 to 2012 when a group of terrorists from her time escapes execution by fleeing to present day. In order to track them down and stop them from endangering the past, Kiera joins the local police force and uses the skills of a young tech genius, Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen). However, the future of 2077 is a dystopian one in which world governments have collapsed and mega-corporations now dominate the planet, instituting a high-surveillance police state and removing many basic social freedoms. The moral dilemma this presents is that the eight terrorists from 2077 (who call themselves "Liber8"), while self-admittedly having killed tens of thousands of people, consider themselves to be freedom fighters against the Orwellian corporate regime that dominates their time.

No matter how bad they try to make them out to be, i can't help myself but to wish they would win. Destroy Corporate-based law, restore the government and individual freedom. How nasty do they have to be to not root for these guys.

I would root for the terrorist if they only targeted corporate assets and executives. But it sounds like they kill indiscriminately, that doesn't further any cause.

I was actually curious about that when I saw the first episode. By nature, we would assume that corrupt corporations are bad, but the CPS officer who is on the side of the corporations is the "good guy" in the show. Naturally, we want to side against oppression (the corporations), but the liberators are made out to be dastardly people who take any measure necessary to reach their goal.

It's a Canadian TV show, and only available in Canada. So, if you want to see it, you'll have to become a buccaneer and "acquire it." Not that I nor Anandtech support such actions!

Although, a situation like this is kind of interesting when it comes to legality. How much of a leg does a Canadian company have to stand on in regard to illegal distribution when no one owns the distribution rights in America? Does that company technically own them, but they have no actual presence in the country? I know that this is the thought that people tend to use for Japanese cartoons (anime) and comics (manga) when there is no US distributor.

you would do well to stay away from it and do not type into Google "watch Continuum online" for your sake and that of your children. And the neighbor's dog.

Remeber the RIAA is people just like you, who struggle to feed themselves and their children and who bring livelihoods to many suffering workers that thanks to them afford such luxurious lifestyles as Yachts and 99" plasma TVs. Cheating them is like cheating yourself out of a future, a future brought to you by AllCom.

The terrorist are freedom fighters like those at the beginning of our country. Washington used force. Lincoln used force. All for freedom. Freedom is paramount and those who do not see this are the sheep the GOVERNMENT wants to RULE.

Syfy picked it up. They just showed the first episode a couple of days ago. The entire first season already aired in Canada. It was picked up for a second season. No start date on that yet.

As to the question of whether they are terrorists or freedom fighters, well, that's part of the show. It raises some thought provoking questions.

Interesting note about this show...since it wasn't avail in the US, I aquired it by ..um..other means. I think the first season was over before I'd heard Syfy was going to pick it up. Oddly, promptly after that news came out I was notified by my ISP that I'd been reported for downloading it....of ALL things. LMAO. Right or wrong...it just seemed..odd.

Sadly though, I only watched like 3 episodes..I found it just..boring once they went back in time.

io9 ran weekly recaps of the series when it first aired. you could try to find them but their search function is abysmal(not nearly enough filtering given the number of cross referencing links.)

the jist of their recap/reviews covered most of the OP's question about who the viewer is being directed to identify with. if you finish the season, the dividing line between the factions becomes radically distorted.

I know of many despots and military coups that would disagree with you. In fact, indiscriminate killing leads to the emotion best used to control people, fear. To this very day fear is played upon constantly to make people bypass logical thinking and fall in line with the fearful masses.

As for the show, I did find myself rooting for the terrorists, especially before they closed some of the plot holes regarding Kiera working with the current day police, talk about a rocky road.
