Here is the story...
workers seem like honest good guys, but waited until I left house to enter my home through the bathroom window that they asked me to leave unlocked for a power cord that I plugged in for them earlier in the day. I am not paranoid, the entry was obvious, as the roofer left a big footprint on my nice new bathmat (it was bathroom window)...When I came home, I felt violated. The work they completed was very good, and I don't want to make them mad and have them do a lesser job because they feel that I don't trust them, however, they did break my trust, and I know they used the toilet and sink, and have no problem with that whatsoever, except that they didn't ask, but snuck in. The job doesn't require any inside work, and if I asked them why they came in, they probably would say it was to unplug the power cord.
I have decided to leave a sign telling the men that the house is locked up tomorrow, while I am at work because my dogs are running free in the home. This is true. I have installed new window locks, on windows that were missing them or had broken over the years ( this is a very old home and I just moved in). In the note, I told them I appreciated their hard work, and didn't mention our breach of trust. I also left goodies for the men, in good faith with a new plugged in extension cord so they can complete the job. Do you feel I am being too hard, too soft, or just diplomatic? More importantly, will this aggrivate the men, and possibly impact their effort and performance. Family has very mixed feelings on this issue. HELP---I have no way of knowing if they explored other parts of my house, but am left to wonder.
