I've tried many different controllers and adapters on my PC and rumble never works, or it works for a couple seconds then freezes, but usually just doesn't work. Anyone know if PCs are capable of making game controllers rumble/vibrate? I've tried years to get it working but it never will. Just doesn't seem like it's possible via PC USB ports. I know it's not a big deal, but i'm just curious since i've never been able to get it working.

I would suspect that you are looking for tacticle feedback.

That will be dependent on the controller hardware and specialied drivers/interfaces to the relevant game.

i remember one of my pc gamepads had rumble. the driver calibration window thing let you try out a few rumble feed backs and stuff. the thing is not many games use gamepads on pc, so probably even less rumble support. its very possible, force feedback has been around on pc's for a long time, but its probably more developed for steering wheels and stuff. do they even make those force feedback joysticks anymore?

saitek makes a force feedback version of the Cyborg Evo (a great joystick in it's own right) but flightsims aren't that common so I'm not sure there are many if any recent flight sims with force feedback. If you're looking for a force feedback game pad I believe saitek makes one of those too.

Wonder why it 'stalled'. Is there any settings anywhere in Windows XP (or possible even the bios) that might affect controller device rumble?

I use an Xbox (original) controller on my PC with a USB adapter running via the XBCD drivers. Force Feedback/rumble does work, but it's definitely not as accurate as on a console like the Xbox. I've used it with racing games, like TOCA 3 on the PC.

I tried using force feedback with need for speed underground 2 and most wanted but it increased crashes x 20 even though I liked it I haven't seen support for it in any other recent game.
