I just bought a PowerA charging station, which sits on my end table next to my couch. When I want to play, I just grab the controller, which is fully charged, and when I'm done, I just plop it back. I use my rechargeables with my X1 where I have a nice charger sitting on the same end table as the PlayStation 4 charger. Although, I store the batteries in a storage area inside the other end table.

EDIT:

I wonder if he's turning the PS4 off instead of putting it into standby mode (orange LED strip). It won't charge when turned off completely! :$

I know the difference between standby and powered of and even if I wasn't IT, it says what the two are when attempting to power it off. the only time I powered it off was when I was struggling to close an app before I found the menu.

I haven't used it much the last three days. I'll play around and see if I can get it to charge on standby. The cable they gave me feels like it has two stages before complete insertion. Its possible the first two days I could have not had it plugged in all the way. When it wasn't charging I could have sworn I had read and forgotten that sleep charging had to be patched in. Still that was third and farthest down my list of controller issues. I have gotten it completely charged at least twice. Which was in one week doing nothing much more than watching movies on Vudu. I don't think there is a defense for that. I also don't think its a problem that should make people buy a different console.

What I wanted was a sturdy charging station that I can easily plop a controller into. The only weird aspect of it is that there's a weird sort of push-based docking aspect. It's sort of like a push-based toggle switch as you push the controller down and it docks in place and starts charging. It isn't hard, but it's odd compared to the PS3 charger where you just kind of put the controller in. I also don't think it's too big.

Here's the charging station with both of my controllers.
Here's the charging station with one of them removed, which shows the weird clicking thing.

One nice thing is that Walmart was selling this for only $20!

I saw someone showing the pushing/clicking part (they didn't have a controller to show size) and they said it worked like this: if you just place the controller on the stand it wont charge, but if you want it to charge you click it down.

Thanks a bunch for pics/impressions though. I think I'll grab it.
One thing though, you sure you grabbed it at Walmart? They don't even have it listed on their site. I see most places are selling it for $25 and Gamestop is selling it for $30 lol f'n GS.

I've played a lot of Super Stardust HD on the PS3 and Resogun on the PS4, and I haven't ever had my fingers touch. However, I have had some rather bad wear on my hands after playing both of those games for a while. Although, I think the DualShock 3 would hurt my hands more after playing for a while.

Yeah, I'm not too sure what I think about the X1 controller. It's not bad, but it doesn't come across as great. Although, I don't own any fighters (or rather, the only fighter: Injustice) on the PS4, so I can't test it.

That's the charging station I have and I like it. The energizer one pluggs in differently and I thought I would break it when I play sometimes after a few shots lol. As for the controllers overall I had more time with the xb1 today and I like it. Not as much as I like the ps4 but it is still decent. I am not terrible with killer instinct as far as getting the moves off. It seems that the dpad is a little twitchy and clicky. I played some street fighter 4 on the PC with the ps4 controller and I can say it is a lot better for those types of games. Both obviously pale in comparison to a fight stick though. Overall the xb1 controller is decent after a little time to get used to it. It just doesn't melt into my hands the same way the ps4 controller did immediately for me.

Yep. I didn't order a charging station for the PS4's release and I had to work late that night, so at about 10:40, the only places open are Target (for 20 minutes) and Walmart. Target only had PS3 charging stations, so I was forced to go to Walmart. I checked their site while I was in Target, and it didn't list a price (said it varied by store) and the amount in stock stated "limited stock". So, I wasn't too sure if I'd even find any, but they actually had a whole shelf spot full of them.

Although, I can't find it on their website anymore either!

It just doesn't melt into my hands the same way the ps4 controller did immediately for me.

When I first started using the X1 controller, the one thing that I noticed about it was how narrow it is. The DualShock 4 is definitely wider, and given I have fairly large hands, I actually miss the wider nature.

That is actually a fairly good description I what I feel but could not explain well.

Weird, people's thumbs hit when using the DS3/4? I have never, ever had that happen and did not even realize it could. :hmm:

And if its anything like the xbox controller you will get 2 or 3 charges out of it then your analog sticks will be shot. Ok, slight exaggeration but you get my point, that is the main reason I went with PS3 instead of xbox in the long run... The controllers crapped out to quickly on the xbox.

Thats not even remotely true. My brother and his friend have about 6 PS3 controllers between them and I have personally owned at least 4 Xbox 360 controllers and his PS3 controllers died far sooner, rubber coming off analog sticks, buttons sticking, just general messed up issues.

Maybe you had some bad luck with yours.

My Xbox 360 controllers always had the analog sticks get loose and rub the plastic around the stick part off fairly quickly. My buttons started sticking a bit as well, they didn't stick in the on position but they didn't feel like they did new. I used them pretty heavily for PC titles and they just wore down. We will see if the new one fairs better.

I'm talking like, going through 1 or 2 PS3 controllers, and about 20 xbox controllers. Their analog sticks simply wear out, I'm not taking about the rubber coming off so its more uncomfortable, I mean they start getting loose so you cannot use them properly. Remember the old N64 analog controller issues? Something more along those lines.

My buttons only stick when the controller gets dirty, I haven't had that issue with either PS3 or xbox.

There are things I like and don't like about the PS4 controller. I'm not a huge fan of the triggers. The sticks themselves, while an improvement, are still a bit weird. They have an indent but a raised in the middle with sharp edges. Weird. It does feel more substantial than the DS3 though. Just a bit bigger so it works a bit better with adult hands, especially folks like me who have long fingers.

Aside from the D-Pad being absolute crap, I still think the Xbox 360 controller is the best console controller ever made. It just feels right.

I haven't seen the Xbone controller. Doesn't look substantially different from the 360's though.

When you feel the xb1 controller you will immediately notice the changes.

After a couple of days with the Xbox One Controller and a week plus with the PS4 controller, it's no contest IMO. The Xbox One controller wins.

I don't have that problem with the DS4, but it was a big issue for me with the DS3. Do a right circle strafe with the DS3, and I get thumb interference. Not and issue with the DS4 in my limited use of it so far.

You are about the only one who says this so far. Its pretty well established that a lot of people like the DS4 better. Very few people have claimed the xb1 controller was superior in anything other than battery life and it seems a lot of people feel it is a step backwards from the 360 controller.

I have some issues with the xb1 controller, all very minor but it could have been better.

What do you find better about it?

I agree with you that for me personally the xbox 360 controller has been the most comfortable to use. In fact I am currently using a wired Xbox 360 controller for all games on my PC.

360 > DS4 > One

But all three are great controllers. I find precision movements to be the most difficult with the One, probably because the sticks are taller which makes them inherently more sensitive. There's just a hair of "stick" to them too that my 360 and DS4 controllers don't have.

All this analysis aside, the good news is that the controllers for both consoles are excellent and neither are even close to deal breakers.

I would agree with him as well. Triggers are better, love the analog sticks and spacing, slight edge to button placement near right analog, better feel (though the ds4 is so much better than the 3). The DS 4 is so much better than the 3 but I think it is a little bit behind the one's controller. It does have much better bumpers, and the touch pad has opportunities depending on how its used.

To get around the charging issue, I just got a 10' USB to mini-USB cable. So if the battery craps out I can just play wired.

If you get a charging station and you run out of battery, you're done until you can recharge your controller.

one gripe i have with the x1 controller is that the face buttons feel much bigger. i've noticed myself pressing more than 1 button at the same time on accident a few times while playing killer instinct. thankfully i won't have to use the controller for that game anymore though.

Ah fair enough. Could just be the games I played, or the specific way I hold my controller. I went and tested my DS4 after posting here and I guess if you are using the part of your thumb right under the knuckle, then I could definitely see it happening. I use almost the ends of my thumbs so I never even get close.

I dont think they are bigger but I'll check side by side later, but they seem spaced closer together.

If only they could make a 360 controller with the DS4's dpad.

Microsoft, you had ONE job when designing your new controller...

The buttons on the ONE bug me just a bit, but my main gripe is with the elongated sticks. That just makes zero sense to me. I got used to the bumpers so no biggie there... but the sticks are just weird. Still nitpicking though, it's a good controller.
