So I'm trying to convert your normal every day Ground Bloom Flower spinning sparkler, into a helicopter/bee/whatever. The only difference seems to be the wings, but my few beta designs never lift off. I've tried different wing directions, etc...

Anyone done this before? Tips?

This -> That

Not to be too much of a thrill killer but I know in CA that is a MINIMUM $5,000 fine, 30 days in jail and FIVE years FORMAL/SEARCHABLE probation. If youre in CA be careful I would hate for ya to get busted because the old people next door called or something.

It probably wont work. And it will take alot of testing, to say the least.

Be sure to be very careful and keep a good distance. If you use metal mods, they might come loose or become shrapnel.

Interesting ideas... I probably wont try the aluminum can though, deffinately sounds like a flying razor blade ready to happen.
The plastic saucers sound like a good idea, that would rule out my wings as the source of trouble, then I would only have to worry about positioning the wings on the tube itself.

Thanks guys

ANyone else have ideas?

Yeah buy some good voice recognition software because you are going to need it after you blow your fingers off your hand. I can't think of anything stupider (well I can but that's besides the point) than altering fireworks. If you want something to go bang or fly just buy some illegal fireworks or do like we do here in Mass, go to New Hampshire and get our fireworks.

hehe. I always drive to S.C. a few weeks before the 4th of July and get some mortars (re-loadable shells).

They are not legal here, but if you only fire them off on the 4th, the law will be very lenient and will only interfere if someone complains.

I do get nice illegal fireworks here to, I go either Tennessee or Indiana. These dont go boom, bang, etc... only spark and spin. The most I could do is put an eye out or something.

I am just trying to have some fun with these little cheapies and have a sense of adventure modding them

Hey go for it. If you do lose and eye or some fingers it will make for an interesting thread.

It's pretty foolish to mess with this stuff. The craziest thing I ever did was shove a toothpick in a jumping jack and break it off. It converted it into a firecracker. Why don't you just buy the stuff from the start?

This is a really good idea.

I think using metal to modify your fireworks is the best suggestion yet.

The old ones had more propellant (I'm talking 70's I'm a hippy) and made a nice loud crack when the hole was plugged. Nothing beats the old hammer heads (M80) back then. They would split a piece of iron drain pipe. The M80 crackers they sell today are no better than a black cat cracker. Law limits the amount of powder charge per device so save your money.

Putting an eye out is a big deal. Happened to a friend of mind years ago with a bottle rocket. Make a note that if you have been drinking you should not be holding the punk!!!

Anyway he pressed the cherry of the punk in the middle of the fuze and the rocket suddenly took off as he was standing over it and it planted itself in his eye. He lost use of that eye and till this day has a glass eye. The rocket report misfired so he was lucky as it could have come close to killing him if it went off in his head!

Back around 1980 I remember my cousin (I always thought he was cool as a kid) decided it would be a great idea to buy one of those pin wheels.............(the kind you nail to a telephone pole and then light and it spins like crazy)..................and pull the fireworks out of it.

Then, he bought regular bottle rockets, but pull those tiny fireworks off of them and taped on the units from the pin wheel. Needless to say it made a "bottle rocket PLUS" outta' those things.

Scary part was after a couple in the bottle, he decided it would be more fun to light them, then toss them after the fuse got close............LOL!!!!!

He never did hurt himself, but I remember one went so far I remember it simply left our view!!! Awesome, but dangerous for sure!!!
