I honestly do not understand why people feel the need to rip on people who's parents buy them stuff. How exactly does it affect you? You are kind of people who will happen to drive through a nice neighborhood and see some teenage kid getting into a nice car and you will instantly form a negative opinion of that person. You have no data at all, yet for some reason that kid is a spoiled rich kid who doesn't know the value of money, etc, etc. And here's the funny part. I bet not a one of the people here who is bad mouthing this guy would turn down $12,000. Not a one of you.
maybe you should start heeding his advice.. If anything, my dad has taught me to be humble

I actually didn't have a problem with him wanting to get the best value for his dollar. I took offense to his statement that "poor" people always nag him because he is wealthy. Well, honestly, I have some fairly sizable assets and have never had anyone nag me about it. Only if you flaunt it and act like an ASS do you take MY criticism.
Yes, you're missing the quote I replied to. I'm glad to see you're considering something more realistic.Originally posted by: Sudheer Anne
A lot of you guys really need to calm down. I'm not some rich snob that looks down upon people. If anything, my dad has taught me to be humble. I'm just sick of people making snide comments about rich people like its some kind of curse to be rich.
And since when has a Honda Accord become a luxury sedan? am i missing something?

what the hell do I have to flaunt? I drove around in a 1983 turbo diesel throughout highschool. You wouldn't know that I was rich if you looked at me. Yet the minute some people here you have a nice house and your dad is a doctor they instantly make stupid assumptions like many people have already made here.

the likelyhood he's gonna hit something within a year of having this car is pretty high considering he's young. hey..we all do it.
the cost of repair for luxury cars and parts? oh no!

Sudheer Anne, ignore those who are bashing you instead of helping you. They need to get lives.
In the long run all parties involved would be happier if you got the car you wanted. As long as you aren't suggesting a car that has rediculously high repair costs are reliability issues, it doesn't make much sense why he would care what car you get.
The Camry is a good car, but it is not the only good car.
It could be argued that a 6 cylinder is more likely to have failures (more parts = more opportunities for failures). But honestly, how many modern cars have engine problems such as valvetrain issues?
NOTE TO HATERS
Nobody cares that you parents didn't buy you a car. Nobody cares how hard you worked to buy one. His parents are buying him one. Get over it. Maybe next we should debate who's job was more difficult when working to pay for a car? I'd like to see those IT professionals surfing the web all day get a job requiring hard work like "bailing hay like my grand daddy did. "You don't know what real work is, boy."
Why do you care if you see a white boy driving a nice car daddy bought him? If this bothers you as much as some of you suggest, perhaps an examination of your life is needed.

Good luck on whatever car you get.

Well maybe you could talk your dad into spending the 10k on a car more to your liking, back it up with facts/figures re: resale value, engine efficiency, etc., and tell him you are going to hold your 2k in reserve for any repairs that might crop up, that way he won't feel like his 'investment' is going to flounder if/when your car starts to have problems. Do you think he might go for that?Originally posted by: Sudheer Anne
look all you haters. I've been driving my dad's 1983 turbo diesel for about 3.5 years now and that thing finally died on me. I've been through hell and back with that car and its got almost 400,000 miles on it. I've had to deal with the car stalling on the freeway, numerous engine failures, and not having airbag's for more than 3 years. Don't tell me I'm being spoiled, I want something that works, is reliable, and has good performance.
Now my dad said he would only pay $10,000, so I'm fronting $2000 on my own. I have saved up some cash from previous birthdays and old jobs. Is it wrong for me to want a car that's a little faster and looks better than a Camry? I'm trying to maximize the money that I'm allowed to spend, and I don't see a problem in wanting something just a little bit decent. After all I'm gonna have it for 3 more years so I'd rather have something that wouldn't break down.
