It should work in your laptop.

And since you have a dell laptop, call tech support and ask them, should be a easy phone call away.

The Inspiron 8200 has the same motherboard as the Latitude C840. The C840 is pretty much an I8200 without all the special function buttons at the top of the keyboard. The screws and casing that come with the drive will fit directly into your 8200 with no modifications necessary. (I have an Inspiron 8200.)

ah...they wont let me use the stackable 15% off coupon that i had....
wondering if its worth it over my current 30GB 4200 rpm hard drive ? I think that i can ebay my current one for ~$80, so the net cost will be ~$40 for me....
is it worth it guys ? extra 10GB and extra speed for $40 or it might be better to hold on little while longer....

i am not using the full 30GB right now...moreover i am currently using ~20GB.....was thinking of upgrading to this using my stackable 15% off bringing it down to ~$100 but they wont let me do that....

should i wait or take the plunge ?

I must admit that with this new drive in, it makes my machine run like a desktop.
The improvement was much greater than upping my ram from 128MB to 384MB.
I say it's worth it for $40, not just for the space, but for the speed.

Where'd you get the 15% coupon from? Too bad it doesn't work.

I concur. The hard drive is really the bottleneck of any modern notebooks. Upgrading to a 5400RPM drive feels like a processor upgrade.

15% off everything in the Software and Peripherals store is a rare deal.
There's usually a Dell deal around, but those are for purchasing new systems.
Ram deals also pop up often too. I'd jump on it if I were you.

What is the concensus as to whether this 5400RPM drive with 16MB buffer would be better or worse than an 80MB or 120MB external 7200RPM drive with 8MB cache attached to firewire? Also, has the 16MB buffer been verified? (I read somewhere in the thread that they received a 2MB Hitachi drive instead of the Toshiba...

If you ordered the 121$ (supposed toshiba drive) YOU WILL GET THE HITACHI drive.

I got mine 2 days ago.. its the hitachi 2mb.. it IS being returned.

I paid for the 16mb unit, and thats what i should have gotten, I won't pay 12$ more
for the actual Toshiba drive (that oddly says 1-2 weeks delivery)..

where-as the drive that should be the toshiba (but it hitachi) says ships same day.
(how can that be?)

No, you looking at the wrong part,
Just do SB, peripherals, drives, Inspiron, 4000 - you will find it.
It is still listed as 16MB
