Absolutely they thought that way!
Which is why its imperitive we wage this war we're waging. So it doesnt happen again.
The simple fact of the matter is, we WILL have to fight them. Now, when a young individual of Middle Eastern decent walks into a grocery store or bank with a backpack on do you know why I'm not sh1tting little green apples?
Because we're waging that war in the Middle East, rather then putting on blinders and saying "It wont happen again...It wont happen again..."
Of course, but we must do it in a humble and disappointed (for the terrorists, that they fell victim to a terrible ideology) manner, not with a "don't mess with us punk" attitude.
As Thomas Paine once said, "The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.," and so we must only punish those who have done wrong. To strike fear and intimidate the majority of Muslim and Middle Eastern people is to punish them all, which if you're in agreement with Paine, is un-American. All peaceful Muslim and Middle Eastern people should be treated as "brethren" (as Paine put it) of "peace" and told that they are one of us and we're helping not only ourselves, but all peace loving and tolerant citizens of the world, including them, but without showing mercy for those who have wronged us.
Arrogance is uncivilized and will be our downfall, and if we're not careful will only create more terrorists than we destroyed.
Punish those who have wronged us, but help others in the middle of this battle (Middle Easterns) understand our plight and draw similarities and correlations between us and them so they can feel a sense of community with us and our causes, whose intentions I hope, but not always sure, are for the benefit of the entire world.
