The ones in your 'RC car' link are knockoffs. Search on eb@y for "char-g", and you can find the real ones for about $30 each shipped.

I got one, let me tell you, a lot of fun. You can race others on an area as small as a table. You can get different tire compounds and shocks. Maybe obvious to most of you but if racing make sure you get different frequencies!

They're not really fakes. Tomico, aka Tomy, makes cars of differing quality and prices for different markets. Those are the ones intended for sale in China. Regardless, they are all made in China. The "real" bitchars are the ones made for sale in Japan. You can get the "fakes" or the "real" ones here for less. The "fake" ones are about $10. You have to pay shipping though.

These suckers are cool. I have 3 of 'em now, the real deal Bit Char-g by Tomy. IMHO, if you just want something to play with, the knockoffs are cool. Otherwise, I'd head over to ToyEast and order some from them. They're based in HK. Never had a problem ordering from them in the past.

the ones here wont be easily hopped up like the tomy ones. The best place to buy the TOMY char-g is probably at www.toyeast.com It's a hong kong, but for $9 shipping it is still worth it to buy it there. Also, there is someone on ebay selling the one on the thread for $15.99. I wouldn't mess with these no name brands though.

Between me and the guys at work, we have 7 or 8 of these. Race them around on a 4'x5' maze track one of the guys made out of the particle board. We've all got the Tomy Bit Char-G cars. I've got the Acura NSK Type-R with the set of tires and the 3.0 motor. Other guys have the Zexel Skyline, Toyota Open Deck (Black), Mazda RX-7 (Yellow), Subaru WRX (White), Toyota Celica (Black), and the Accord Wagon.

Can the fake versions use the Tomy parts? It saids, it the same "everthing" according to description on toyeast site. Not bad for $9.99 but don't know too much about it.

Sorry, don't know much about these RC Cars.. Is the remote control directional, or is it just a button you push to make it go forward?

Bitchars are non proportional. You can go forward/backward and left/right. But it's basically on/off with a button. Digi-qs are proportional. These come with a pistol grip controller with a steering wheel on it. The more you turn the wheel, the more it turns. You can also control acceleration and braking.

Bitchars are small, but nowhere near as nice to race as the .Digi-Q cars.
The Digi-Q has a traditional trigger/wheel controller and much better handling. Both are IR controlled, but there's no comparison between them.

I don't know if you can get them in the states, but Digi-Qs are like 4000 Yen in Tokyo/Akihabara for both a car and transmitter. Killer deal!

Lots of fun with just a few D-Cell batteries for pylons. Fluorescent lights kill the controller range, though.

Yea, I'm getting into this also. Thanks to lsman, I found a new hobby I also saw these mini helicopters that can fly in your house and backyard on some website too. Very cool stuff!

holy cow, helicopters too?? I used to be a big fan of r/c cars (both electric and gas) still have a few in the closet brand new. These little ones are great since I can play with them in the house and with my 2 yr. old. I hope I'm not the oldest one in the thread.

There are a bunch of indoor helicopters now. Piccolo, Hornet, Robin and Housefly come to mind. I have a Piccolo and a Robin. The Piccolo is so small and light that it just flies apart in a crash. That's a good thing. You just have to snap it all back together and you're back in business. The Piccolo has 24" diameter blades. The new one is the Housefly. I think it has 12" diameter blades. Before the Housefly, people also cut down there Piccolos and Hornets to be much smaller as well. The Piccolo is a good learner, the Hornet is a good performer.

Bit Char-G are NOT IR controlled, so they don't require line of sight to control them. Digi-Q's are tho. I've read about modifications being done to the Digi-Q controllers tho that broaden the range on them.

How bad is that in real life? Generally, you would have a bird's eye view anyway, right? Wouldn't that be enough to control the car most of the time.
