I, like many others, ended up doing some massive time-wasting research on these things and this is what I found:

-The models called Tomy Bit Char-G are the universal favorite by almost everyone. Next closest is the Digi-Q. The Digi-Q is more high-tech, but also more expensive. The Bit Char-G are the most highly configurable with the most modifications and parts availible. Even though the Bit Char-G doesn't have proportional steering like the Digi-Q (it's on/off only), it is said to be better handling than the Digi-Q.

-If you get a Bit Char-G that says ANYTHING except Tomy Bit Char-G, then you are getting a rip-off product. OEM Bullet, Thunder Bit Char-g, Cubic, etc... These are all inferior products and you WILL get what you pay for. You've been warned! People who have both will always agree that the Bit Char-G is the one to get, especially if you're new to the hobby.

-ToyEast and eB@y are the place to buy (as of RIGHT now). ToyEast is in Hong Kong, so be prepared to wait about a week or 2 for a shipment.

-It is said that these will be imported to the US sometime soon. I've heard under the name Hobbico MicroSizers. (I haven't seen the Wal-Mart claim verified yet. And that also was not mentioned ANYWHERE on the web as of yesterday.)

Hey - don't know about Wal Mart, but Tower Hobbies is listing the US versions of these cars as available in Mid August...

Right Here

$40 for the car sets... Looks as if the extra car bodies are clear, and can be painted to match your car (if you're lucky enough to own one of the production cars) or whatever you'd like. I'd love to see some NASCAR bodies come out...

Ahh yes, I forgot about that. I did read that tower hobbies is getting them soon. The speculation is that many more hobby stores will once tower gets them.

They sell the Tomy Bit Char-G's at Mitsuwa (car accessories store) for 44$ before tax. They also have the Digi-Q's, I think they were selling for about 70~..

I sorta want one but how long will i actually play with this sucker hehe....

I found some cars at toyeast.com that run for max of 8 minutes. They're in the tomy oem - regular section, the ones in the bubble package. Are there any non-oem cars that run for that long?

Ok, I don't know why I started reading this thread, but I did, and now I totally want one if the price is right.

HOWEVER, even with all the clarifications, the names of these car brands makes me confused by the whole thing in general. So yes, I read this thread, but I'm still confused as to this:

IS IT POSSIBLE to get (just for kicks) a car that does the proportional turning (not just left vs right), will last 5 minutes or more without being charged, and isn't a total piece of c*** for ~$10-15 + cost of S&H ?

If so, which one(s) and where do you get them? I saw the $9.90 ones on some site, but the names of these cars are all so confusing and all have dashes and stuff in them and well, it's friday and I can't think anymore, so if someone would be so kind as to help me, tha'd be cool.

Thanks, this looks like a fun toy.

I've read that some people have been able to get any of the cars using the stock NiCad cell to run longer (about 10+ minutes) just by charging it on the charger multiple times in a row before racing it. This doesn't make sense to me, because the internal cells are rated for a certain mah, and more run time shouldn't be possible. The replacement NiMHs available at QFM run alot longer if you want to go that route. You can run more than 1 internal cell too, for extremely fast performance, but I think it yields the same overall run time.

Damn this forum... I spend entirely too much on frivolous stuff because of it. Just bought a Tomy Bit Char-G Castrol Special Edition off of EB@yfor 38 shipped. I'll see how much fun I can have before I buy more, though it was totally tempting to think of saving a little on shipping and buying a silver s2000. I'd love to think I could get a couple more friends to buy these things to race. I would easily build a track in the garage for them.

Damn you guys...you've only fueled my desire for one of these things. My officemate/friend actually sent me a link to these things about a week before it got posted on here. I thought they were pretty cool then, but after reading this thread (& many others & reviews), I finally broke down and bought 3. I don't know how many times I've been on the ToyEast site before I finally went through with it.

I ended up getting:
From ToyEast ($34.xx shipped for both) - delivery date ~8/6
OEM TT Tree Toyota Celica - White
OEM TT Tree Toyota Celica - Red
^----One of these for my friend for his b-day - plus I read a review on TinyRacer that said the TT Trees are the best OEMs out there & come very close in quality to the brand name Tomica/Tomys. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try them out & see.

on Ebay I picked up a Tomy/Tomica Honda NSX-R for $31.50 shipped <---- yeah, I lucked out. Most of them have been going for over $30 without shipping.

I probably won't get any of these until August sometime, but they'll be worth the wait! Plus when my friend finds out I got one for him...

Damn...wife is gonna kill me when she sees my CC bill this month ($60 for R/C cars, $50 for Windows XP Pro, $70 for a set of road tires & tubes for my 'cross bike). Ugh.

Replacing the stock car antenna with some "commercial grade" cat-5 cabling seems like a must for improving the reception range. This cabling has a solid copper core instead of multi-strands like normal ethernet cable i guess. I checked my cable and each of the eight insulated strands is made up of multiple strands of copper wire.

Does anyone know where to get the commercial grade cable? Preferrably somewhere that they have a large spool of it and you can cut the length you need, i.e. pay by the foot?

Just signed up to this forum cause it ROCKS! Ummm, question from a newbie. I chickened out of my order with toyeast.com (well, it's just waiting for me to send CC info) cause I was concerned about duties/import tax. Are there any additional fees we have to pay once it gets here to the U.S.? Are there more preferable choices for the parcel info at the shipping page? Thanks for any tips and may we pray for each others credit card bills to not be disheartening.

Oh yeah. Although I'm not sure of the choices that will be available, anyone near a Hobby Town might be able to get one of these Char-g for $19.95. The shop I checked out had what looks like the OEM-Bullet on the toyeast.com website. They were sold out but an employee showed me the one he had just purchased there. It 's amazing how tiny it was and man it looked sweet!

The American repackaged version of the Bit-Char is out now. It's called a Microsizer. I just saw it at a store. Still cheaper to order the real thing from HK.

That would be so cool to have the actual car that one of these is based on. Like a Supra, S2000, or Skyline (droool). Then you could have a mini version of your real car . I guess I'll just have to get a red Evo VII if/when they ever make it to the US shores so I can have a big version of my RC car

Sweet! The expected date of delivery on my toyeast order was August 4, but when I woke up, there it was on my door step. The box was dirty but in good shape.

If you set the Digi-Q to "easy" operation (there's a switch between "normal" and "easy"), the car becomes VERY easy to control. It basically tunes back the motor speed a bit, but steering is a lot simpler.

From what I've read, the Digi-Q on "easy" speed is about as fast as a Bit Char-G can ever get. Normal mode of the digi-q is way faster though. After a few days, I'm quite adept at racing around at full speed.

I think they ask what kind of label you want to put on the package, so that you can avoid customs.

I see that it all says the max run time is 2 minutes. I am looking for one that is more heavy duty that I can buy for kids. something that will not break in 2 days. So what are your recommendations?

Then you should just be going to Toys 'R Us or your local toy store and looking at their normal 1/10 or 1/12 scale RC cars. These aren't your average car and their range is extremely short. They are mainly used for "table-top" racing and not driving around the house, because of the range issue.

Speaking of which... What good is the US "microsizer" version if they are only going to offer TWO frequencies!? So you can race ONE other person? How fun!

Most Bit Char-G people recommend the 2.2 motor. Even when there are much faster motors. Why? Because more speed means you need a larger track for racing! You want something to be fast enough that it's fun, but not too fast that you need a huge track to get up to speed. These were designed for "table top" racing after all... If you limit the speed, then you don't have to worry about space requirements when it comes to building a track.

If you aren't racing (or you live in a school gym ), then speed really doesn't matter. Might as well get the fastest one

Toyeast sells the supra with the 3.0 as a package, so I'm sure it works. I think they made it so all parts are interchangable.

The upgrade motors on Toyeast say Bit Racer on the box. They will work in the Bit Char-G, but are smaller I think. You'll have to bend a contact on the motor out further to make it fit or use some aluminum foil in between to conduct the electricity. Also, the 3.0 will burn out and be a total loss if you use the white gear that comes with it. These were made for the Bit Racers, which are like slot cars. I've seen posts saying to use the gear from the motor that came with your car or the black gear that comes with the 3.0 (it comes w/ a black and white gear). If you check cosmogames you'll see that their upgrade motors say Bit Char-G on the box. These motors were specifically made for our cars but the Bit Racer motors have been proven to work too.
