Hi guys,

Giving my comp to my daughter and fixing it up for htpc as well. Dont think I want to give her the Tuniq. I might, but I have to ship her this one. Would appreciated your thoughts on this, and also, If you think that a better application is warranted.

New setup:Coolermaster RC-690, Barracuda 7200.11 32 Mb cache 500 GB drive (to go with Seagate 7200.10), Gigabyte DS4 Rev, 4 GB GSkill HZ, Hauppage 180, Windows Vista Home Premium, Corsair 620Hx, Graphics to be determined (crazy time to be buying a video card).

Any suggestions would be appreciated on cooling or application. I will be leaving the E4300 in @333, so it should be adequate for that. A penrhyn will go in in the future.

This is for my daughters 21st Bday. I will be buying her a nice 22 or 24inch monitor as well.

Your help appreciated.

BTW: She is into interior design, probably lots of graphics programs.

Thanks.

The new Cooler Master Hyper 212 may work, but even though it is lighter than many of the popular behemoths, I still wouldn't ship it in place. Ship it in its box taped inside the case somewhere (I suggest strapping tape so it might not come loose and start sailing around inside the case) and let her mount it. Hyper 212 I'm sure it can be had for less than that - check the price search engines like Froogle, etc. Yup, ClubIT has it for $24. after rebate. It can use push-pull fans to good effect, so you might want to pick up a matching fan at the same time. If one has a bit of mechanical ability it shouldn't be hard to install if you mount up the bottom bracket while installing the mobo. A recent review gave the 212 their "Gold" rating.

The Zalman radial fin coolers work well and are easy to handle too.

The CM Hyper 212 does have screw mounts and backplate. I still wouldn't want to ship it mounted - might break the mobo... I doubt anyone here has much experience actually shipping a system with an oversize HSF mounted up. I'd be very leery of the idea.

HP and compaq use an avc heatpipe heatsink in pretty much all theri pentium D 8xx/9xx systems (my mom and dad both haver them) and with a scrwe mount its almost impossible for it to come off. (i'd assume hp/compaq mail their systems through UPS or fedex so i figure its pretty safe to do it)

I shipped a computer with an Ultra120 mounted. It went fine. (I taped it to the side of the case with Gorilla Tape, however.

Decided to use the Coolermaster Hyper TX I have sitting here. It weighs in at 482 grams, which exceeds Intel specs by 32 grams. I am going to put a back plate on it, and mark the box THIS WAY UP and hope for the best.

If you read this and have experience in this matter, I am shipping tommorrow night and would appreciate your opinion.

Thannks guys.
