they look impressive but also heavy but those temp drops as in toms hardware (bad review) seem a little too good I would like to take my 3.0c to 4.1 the temps get out of control too fast with air
And no I am not going Water I have bad luck I can already see a flood everytime I think of one
I like the phase change cooling but its pricy for me I like the prometia too

I want to bump this post because I am interested to know if any one is using this cooler. I am interested in the thermalright SP97, but the hyper 6 seems like it may be a great cooler. The cost about the same, but I like to know what you guys think. I read a review in spcr and it seems to perform very well.

I have one of these and I'm torn between it and the Thermalright SP94.
My mobo reported cpu temps are a couple degrees lower with the H6 than the SP94.
I'm currently using the SP94 again but I'm about to go back to the H6 tommorow and give that a longer tryout.

I can't give a complete impression on cooling other than what I just mentioned but I will say this about that behemoth. It's huge. Installation was no picnic. The retention clips used seemed kind of cheap and flimsy compared to the rest of the equipment. I had to exert quite an alarming amount of pressure on the second retention clip in order to fasten the unit to the cpu. I also had to use an exacto knife to slice away some of the supplied bracket in order for it to fit w/o hitting my northbridge heatsink.

You will have to remove your motherboard and fasten a backplate in order to use this monster. I stripped two of the supplied fasteners for the backplate somehow so caution and patience is the keyword here.

I'm not sure why I'm going to try this again but I think it's cause I'm just not satisfied with my idle temps with the SP94...50c....Mobo is a DFI LanParty 865

Good luck if you decide to go with one.

I was using the stock fan that came with the Hyper6. Not a bad fan, came with a 3.5 inch fan control unit.
I replaced that with a ThermalTake 80mm fan and blower kit w/controller. The CPU fan is rated for 4800 rpm and up to 72 cfm. The blower is rated up to 4500 rpm and 26 cfm. They get pretty loud when cranked on high but I'm happy with them.

If you don't make your decision right away I'll post again and let you know how I'm feeling with it over the weekend.

I think that the xp-120 is a Pentium heatsink, I have a socket A AMD system.

Xp-120 is a step up for SP94
But Thermalright always makes an AMD counterpart sp94/sp97
So there will be an AMD version for sure

Xp-120 AMD counter part would be nice, I wonder if these behemoths conflict with NB cooling though... My Zalman blue NB heat sink conflicts with my SLK947U already...

That review shows that the Hyper 6 performs better then the SP97 in some instances. The major drawback is that this cooler is much harder to install, that is what ebat said in a post above.

Anyone used this in a tower (of any sort) since the last post?

The only thing that concerns me is stress and torque on the mobo itself.

So anyone been running this for a while?

I suppose I could always rig some wire or something that attaches to the aluminum portion of the heatsink and then the top of the case so helps bear some of the load...

The biggest problem with the Hyper 6 is that which way the air blows depends on your motherboard. You can either have the air blowing towards your powersupply (bad imho), or the rear of the case (good). For the P4P800 Deluxe (motherboard I have) it blows towards the PSU, so I went with the XP-120, and am very satisfied. I'd recommend waiting until the AMD version comes, but there's not much of an idea when that'll be. The other good thing is that being aluminium, the XP-120 weighs within Intel & AMD heatsink guidelines (weighs 328g I believe), whereas the Hyper 6 is nearly 3 times that I think? It also is supposed to cool better than the hyper 6 from what I've read, but I still haven't seen a complete review for it yet...
