Hi folks,

will be placing my order this weekend for my gaming rig hardware(now that I finally located a A8n32-sli mobo!!)

I DO NOT plan to overclock my system at all, at least not initially. I'm going to run auto/default everything until the system gets some stable time under it's belt.

I am curious if the including heat sink(fan?) with this processor is adequate to keep it cool.

Secondly, for those with this processor that have used additional cooling(other than liquid, as I won't be doing that either), what do you suggest?

thanks!

it is adequate, you won't be getting any overheating problems unless the IHS contact is extremely poor, or if you keep the case in an unventilated area.

if you are not overclocking, additional cooling is unnecessary. If however you feel it is necessary, for air cooling i recommend the thermaltake big typhoon. It is widely regarded as one of the best air coolers around.

I hear people have lots of trouble installing the typhoon though. Is there a newer version that fixes install problems?

The stock 4800 heatsink (AVC model with heatpipes) is actually quite good. Its biggest downfall is noise, as some users (like me, my 4200 came with the same heatsink) found it to be too loud.

My suggestion, use the stock heatsink, and see if the noise bugs you. IF it does, spend the $40+ dollars to get a quieter model with equivalent capabilities.

Stock is very good. Good for about 2500Mhz until heat just overwhlems it.

I have a 4800+ with stock sink. Not overclocked 27/38. I thought that was rather impressive for a stock heatsink.

Guess that depends on what you think is too hot, but 50c on the stock cooler doesn't seem bad to me at 2.618ghz 1.475v(maybe thats only cause I am use to those overheating furnaces made by Intel). Thats with the stock thermal pad as well, didn't even bother replacing it with AS5.

I am getting 41C Idle and 51C load using the stock HSF on my X2 4400+ oc'ed to 2607MHz.

These days the ambient temperature is low (need to wear warm clothes in the room), so the temps might go up in summer.

I am planning to get the AC Freezer 64 Pro
