Cooling a 7900GS

Am I missing something? Does the Accellero even fit? That seems to be one of the questions no one has really answered.

accellero is said to fit, as seen in other threads i've came across. also, it's listed as fitting the 7900gtx which is same design as gs, so it's fine. vf900 is a good deal right now at newegg, especially with the free ship with paypal

Lets set things straight.
The Accelero does NOT fit the 7900GS,

If you look at the picture earlier in the post that shows the PNY and 7900GS, you can see where there is a round capacitor (?) near the white DVI connect, that piece sticks up and blocks the heatsink. Furthermore, the copper heat pipes coming off the end of the Accelero interfere with the DVI connectors.

PNY boards will take less modification. I have the eVGA 7900GS.

In order to get it to fit, you must drill a hole through the Accelero to allow that cylinder shaped piece of electronics (guessing a cap.) to fit through. Then, you have to chop off the heat pipes at the end of the card and a bit of the heatsink itself. THen you have to chop notches in the plastic casing acount the heatsink to clear the ends of the DVI connectors.

So in the end, it fits but not without major hacking and its crooked when mounted on since there is another piece of electronics (voltage regulator?) towards the DVI end that lifts the heatsink up. So your heatpipes are chopped, drilled through, and the heatsink makes bad contact. If you tighten the screws all the way you can see the card itself flex....

Post back from the dead.

I went with the Zalman ZF700-CU and couldn't be happier. I have yet to see a temp above 45C and the thing is dead silent. I even used the paste that came with the cooler, I'll re-do it with some Artic Silver some day. I haven't gotten the guts to try it yet, but I have a conductive pen and multimeter waiting, I'll probably see about a volt mod one day.

Well back from the dead to clear up future issues, since I bought the Accelero off of the information supplied here.

I got it to fit, ****** I would of cut the thing in half to make it. Returning online purchases is such a pain.

BTW the Accelero's heatpipes are empty. No working fluid in them at all.
