Cooling a FX-8320

I plan to upgrade to a 8320 (I know, outdated, AMD. Whatever, that's why this is in cooling and not CPU)
I have my NZXT respire t40 ready to cool it, but I've heard the stock cooler isn't half bad, and the t40 is limited to a vertical orientation with the am3 socket. Should I use the stock cooler, or will it work fine? I plan to clock to a mild 4.2-4.5 or so. (I'm also a bit worried about my 550w PSU not liking the overclocked 8320 and overclocked 770, but maybe that's me being worrisome.)

Wouldn't recommend stock cooler. Use the NZXT and see what temps are like compared to stock cooler.

I was able to run my 8350 at 4.6ghz at 1.35V and very high load line calibration with an NZXT Respire T20. Temps were not what I'd call great.

Last night I installed a refurb Corsair H100 and kicked it up to 1.375V and +.25V CPU-NB and was stable with even better temps at 4.7ghz. Then my GD-990FXA-UD3 blew up. Time for me to find a new motherboard.

My 8350 wont even clock to 4.4Ghz with good cooler. I guess I got a not so great CPU.

Hope you have ovp/ocp on that PSU;It may not be enough.

Ok, back to plan 1. I think I am looking at a 4670k now. (Won't really know until devils canyon comes out)
Would my PSU be enough for an overclocked 4670k (~4.4-4.6Ghz is my aim. 1.2-1.25vcore unless I get a great chip) and an overclocked 770 that commonly hits power limit? It's only a 550w, but it's a pretty good 550w.

I pulled 495W from the wall with two overclocked 7970s and an overclocked 2500k when running folding@home. You should be fine with a good 550W PSU.

Depending on which "pretty good 550W" you have, it should be perfectly fine. 770 is 250 Watts max draw stock, so when you OC it you are probably still less than 300 during gaming. 4670K loaded is 100W vs double that for Vishera, so good call here going Intel route. If your PSU has multiple 12V rails, you will need to make sure the load is shared across them. If it is a single 12V rail, which is probable if it is a "pretty good 550W", then you should just be able to plug it in and enjoy.

OEM is high power. Looks pretty good on paper. I think it should be good, but I'm not a PSU guy.
