my 3770k ended up with 75C on hottest core under prime 95 with hyper 212 evo with the stock fan at 4.2Ghz.
So if that's all you are aiming for, like I am, then hyper should be good enough. Noctua is obviously better if you are aiming higher.
And I didn't even get a very good chip...(temp between hottest and coldest core vary 13C, and need 1.19V to stable at 4.2Ghz OC)

I actually made a thread about it asking why is the temp so hot xD.

Coming from AMD where 62C is the max, getting used to Intel and its 105C limit definitely takes some adjustment.

Short answer is yes to 4.0Ghz and most likely to 4.2Ghz. My 3770k at 4.4ghz is cooled by a ThermalTake Extreme water cooling system. With a few bios adjustments and stock vcore on IntelBurnTest or Prime95 I never exceed 71C.

May I suggest a second fan for the hyper 212 EVO to create a push/pull effect. BTW, outstanding system! It should scream!

I just looked at this thing and its huge, does it not become a pain in the butt to remove it for simple things like memory upgrades?

I ve had several of the noctua s before and no complaints with clearance . Of course with an i7 3770 k .if he is not gonna delid I would go h60 corsair push pull but then again he is only barely overclocking it

I get 72C on a 3770K running 4.6G @ 1.25V with a noctua NH-C14 cooler, stock fans running at 800RPM.

Boy Ivy is one hotttt cpu reminds me of the Prescott days. I think if you are buying a Noctua you are better off getting a AIO solution since it'll be cheaper and perform just as good or better.

Also it'll take less space than the Noctua and you won't have any clearance issues. Just my 2 cents.

May I suggest a second fan for the hyper 212 EVO to create a push/pull effect.

Adding a second fan will definitely help out, but all in all the 212 will cope with the 3770K @ 4.2 just fine.

If you want to go completely crazy with the setup and max it out for 24/7 usage, choose the Noctua. You just can't compare these two coolers - they are appealing for different market segments. So it's up to what you wanna do with your system

I have an i7-3770K with a Hyper 212 EVO, and the day I built my computer I set the multiplier so that it would run at 4.2 GHz, and I haven't looked back. I didn't touch the voltage or anything. Early on I ran a bunch of Prime95 tests for stability, but it's been running fine for months at those settings and I stopped worrying about it being unstable long ago.
