me three. and what about the other innocents who are maimed forever?

yep you're right ..people with no arms or legs ..kids blinded or defaced forever ..women who lost their babies in their last few months of pregnancy .. let's not forget the atrocities of war.

One of the big differences is that XP Home will *NOT* let you join a Domain. This is a big deal if you are in a office environment and need to gain access to resources residing within the domain.

I do think that $60 more for XP Pro is worth it, esp. considering that the XP Pro upgrade retail box is $200 or so.

BTW - Smokin' hot deal!

P.S. Let's not turn this into a political debate. There are plenty of other forums around the net that you can voice your political opinion, a HOT DEALS forum is not one of them

I am availing myself of the deal this go around as this is the sweetest one yet on the 4550. Thanks for the post ...the deal sites didn't pick up on it 'til the afternoon ...way to go.

Uphold your freedom of speech ...that's the American thing to do (within forum guidelines).

Assuming you do everything correctly (remember to make copies of everything and mail it priority with d.c.) 12 weeks is the typical turn around time.

I am getting 2, one for me and for my friend !

But I am holding off the DVD+RW... as I think the DVD media is a bot costly, considering CD-Rs are almost FAR, and also some people have reported issue with the NIC DVD+RW

As I anticipated, it didn't take long for pinko liberals (the same people who cheered Clinton when he bombed Baghdad to steer attention from his impeachment hearings) to start complaining about the title.

Gread deal man

I wish Yo2 or the mods would edit the thread title so we can get back to HOT DEALS instead of politics/racism/war discussion.

I have two 4550's in my cart... going to click the 'checkout' button... but I have some very quick questions...

1. Can I add another hard-drive and/or cd-rw drive later on my own ?
2. How much does a DVD rom drive cost ? (i have a spare 48x CD-RW... and can put it in the second bay.. if it exists)
3. How many PCI slots does this baby have ?

Thanks.

k000,

1) Yes
2) It should be a FREE Upgrade you can choose between either a FREE DVD or FREE CD-RW
3) The answer is here

These are great, fast, powerful and best of all QUIET machines.

I'm considering this purchase for a friend. My main issue is the DVD Burner. I don't know much about the +R, -R system or which companies make the best ones, etc. I've seen in random threads, people talk about the Dell DVD burner and how it has issues. Can anyone tell me what issues they are and if anyone has a 4550 with a DVD burner, what they think of it. Thanx.

Thanks RossMan !

Your link was very informative (duh ! I couldn't clikc that myself ?) , however.... it does not say anywhere that I can add another har-drive.. I currently have Dell L933r... and it cuoldn't take second HD, I had to use my Mechanical Engineering skills to improvise and glue it somewhere in tne machine !

I think you personally already have another 4550, can you confirm for sure that it is expandable for HD and also if I don't order the second CD-R.. drive, Dell still keep second 5.25" slot for me to upgrade later.

Thanks

My 4550 is still in the box (you don't wanna know how many PC's I have), it's going to be my main PC eventually.

I'm 99% sure that you can add another hard drive but you may want to get final confirmation from another AT'er.

You can add another hard drive into 4550. I added a 20GB and CD writer ( I had a dvd) into my old 4550.

You can add another HD. In fact, if you dont have the floppy drive, there are 3 empty 3.5" bays!
My friend's 4550 has a 30GB and the factory 60GB in it (He got in on the previous deal)

Yes, in fact Dell makes it really easy for you to add an additional hard drive and CD/DVD drive in a 4550. The rails you need to screw on to your drives are included inside the case. You just open it up, screw the rails on your drives, click them into place and attach power and IDE cables... then you're ready to go. Set your drive jumpers to "cable select" and it should detect just fine.
