cooling my radion 9000

The other day i was tinkering around inside my computer and i noticed that the fan in my graphics card is acualy the loudest thing in my computer. I have seen many replacment heatsyncs for nvidia card but non for radions. what would be a good quieter fan that would sufficently cool my radion 9000. I saw this zalman fanless colling system at the store. Would this work with my graphics card, and does it work well? i have looked into thermaltake's cristal orb but it looks like it will be even louder than the fan i have now. Thanks for the help.

Zalmans HP-80A works very well from what I have heard and should be more than enough for what you have. Zalmans HP-50A should be fine as well. There are tons of reviews around for them if you look. I dont know if it will fit, but I think it fits almost all new, popular cards.

If you clock it low enough, you can run it with nothing more than a large heatsink. There are quite a few fanless 9000 cards out there...
In fact, with a BIG heatsink you can still up the clock.

I have a Radeon 9000Pro 128MB ... I think that the fan is glued onto the chip which makes it a problem to take off. Haven't tried it yet, but let me know if it works for u. I'm overclocking the 9000 and need to give it better cooloing.

On my Radeon 9000 Pro, the actual fan is fastened to the heatsink with 4 screws. It is the exact same fan used on the Radeon 8500. The 9000 Pro fan started making a bad howling noise - I found that it had slipped down on the shaft (it runs upside down and hangs on the shaft) and if I pushed it up, it would run silently. So, I removed the card and removed the fan. I fcleaned it thoroughly and replaced it inthe computer. It was OK, but slightly noisier than normal.

I contacted ATI to see about getting a replacement fan. That was over a week ago and they had me request an RMA. They don't sell replacement fans! So, I replaced the whole unit with a 9700 Pro when the price dropped by $100 week before last. The 9000 Pro is sitting, waiting to be sent - but all is silent from ATI. The fan is square, about 1 7/8-in per side. It has a two wire connector that connects to the Radeon board. I am looking for burned out Radeons from which to salvage the fan.

Corky, where did you buy it from?

I found out that SOME Best Buys will honor the 1-year manufacturers warranty, and if you bring in the card with the reciept, they'll give you store credit and just ship the old one back to the manufacturer. This works at my local Best Buy, but that may not be the policy at all of them. I'd give it a shot though if you bought it there.
