Hi, i was hoping you guys could give me a recommendation for a good cooling set up.

At the momemnt i have:

Lian Li PC-65B (Gonna get a P180 to replace it in about a week)

AMD Athlon 4800+ Toledo x2 (stock hs)
EVGA 7800GTX KO ACS3
Antec Truepower II 550W
MSI Neo4 K8N Platinum/SLI
SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP2004C 200GB 7200 RPM SATA2
CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB)

The 7800GTX goes to 71 celsius when loaded.
The AMD is at 40c when i check it in the bios.

I've looked into water-cooling, but i never done a water cooling setup before and im kinda afraid of it .

P.S: I hate noise -_-

Welcome to the forums Jahngoh Your stock AMD HSF is fine, but if you want better (temps and silence) then> Ninja, TR's XP/SI 120, TR's XP90, Zalman's 7700 series in no particular order. They are all good....depends on your budget, & how much you "hate noise." What thug said on the gpu temps. In the P180, you might want to look into the new Arctic Cooling Silencer which is about to debut for the 7800 series. You would get about the same temps as your present gpu cooler (those ACS3 are really nice coolers), but your case and cpu temps would improve w/ the exhausting of the gpu heat. Nice rig!

Just did a stress test with Counter-Strike: Source with everything on high.

Here are the peak temps:
GPU: 79c
CPU: 54c
System: 47c

Your room temps must be warm. You are safe w/ all those temps, but gpu temp is on the high side & both cpu+gpu temps can be lowered w/ aftermarket HS's. With the right setup, the P180 will help lower these as well.

I think ill get the Ninja with P180 when i order it. and if it doesnt help my gpu ill get the Arctic Cooling Silencer on the 15th (when its supposed to be out).

What thermal compound do i use with the Ninja. I never used and aftermarket HS before so i dont know much about thermal interfaces.

Also, Would the ninja be ok to use in Fanless mode with my CPU?

Thanks for the replies btw.

The P180 will definitely help lower the temps like Dan said. The ninja is fine for passive cooling, but I don't think it would help you any in this situation, if you load @ 47C. I think the XP-120 is a great cooler imo. Just make sure you get a panaflo with it

I'd be very careful about running the Ninja fanless with that CPU. I'm sure you could get by at idle with Cool'n Quiet on but loads at full speed are sure to be a problem.

I would also replace the AC Silencer with the Zalman VF-700; it's higher quality, cools better, makes less noise, and is compatible with just about ever card out there.

The VF700 makes less noise at idle. Under load/full tilt, it is quite a bit louder than the AC Silencer rev 2. It is a much higher quality gpu HS than the Silencer rev 2, but it really depends on your particular situation to which one will benefit you the most. OP PM ShadowKnight or Dynamix about the Ninja. They both use it "semi-fanless" and both have it in the P180. Dynamix has the VF700, so you could ask him about that as well.

Think about when you graphics card will be under load; for 99% of the users here that?s only during gaming. Running at full speed the VF-700 isn't silent but it's by no means loud, nothing you would hear over whatever game you're playing. Besides the VF-700 is able to cool any card while constantly running at 5v which is how most people decide to run it, there is no easy way to make the VF-700 dynamic.

Now mind you I am a Zalman boy.....who if I were to convert would probably use the XP120 which I am going to hook up to my machine fort a test drive later today!!

With that said--I have been totally impresed with the Scythe Shogun and Ninja!!
I know people who have the running as passive heatsink who just love them!

I am told you can also do a mild over clock in the 5% range...but a fan would really be required if you were going to do any sort of heavy overclocking!!

Good Luck!!

I'd like to see your aspire case.... for such nice components i'm wondering why your case isn't better

I just talked to an "EVGA Engineer" on the official evga forums. He said that my Temps on the GPU were perfectly normal and that the KO ACS3 was tested to run on 100c.

I didn't say the VF700 was loud....just louder than the rev 2 under load...but while gaming, which is "under load," you couldn't hear it anyways true. It didn't cool my oc'd 6800gt @ 5V under load to my satisfaction, but kept it cool enough to not harm the GPU, immediately atleast. Maybe in time it would decrease its expectancy...don't know. You CAN run it dynamically as I did w/ SpeedFan. As I have posted before, the VF700 increased my case temps (cpu, mobo, system) from anywhere to 2-5C depending on the component I was monitoring. No biggie, but not what I was looking for. Thats specifically why I choose the NV5 over it. If the VF700 had an exhaust option like the AC's I would ditch my NV5 in a heart beat. Everyones situation is different. OP glad to hear you are keeping your cooler. Enjoy that sweet arse card. *NOTE- this coming from someone who is beyond picky about noise.

Better as in whose opinion? Yours?
Personally I like the case I have!!
I have no cooling issues!
My CPU idles at 27c.......

The only case issue I have is I need more room which I will be addressing shortly......
With iether the P180 w/side window.....

or the Black Lian-Li Aluminum Mid-Tower ATX Computer Case w/window....

Anyways I don`t buy equipment based on somebody elses preconcieved ideas as to what is or is not the best!!

Have a nice day!!

i would think you need more airflow in the case. when you get the p180 i would bet that the gpu temps go down. from what i have read abut the ko the heatsink is
a really nice setup.

I'll see how it goes after i get the P180. I'm hoping that will make some difference in temps ( and noise most of all.)

Also whats fans do u guys recommend. Silent ones

These >http://www.jab-tech.com/NEXUS-120MM-REAL-SILENT-CASE-FAN-D12SL-12-pr-2856.html
Quietest fans readily available. If too steep for you then these>http://www.jab-tech.com/Coolermaster-UV...120-mm-SUF-S12-EB-UV-Blue-pr-2590.html are a nice alternative. If your after more airflow than these two, then Panaflo L1A's are nice. They are however 120mmx38mm.

The specs on there says that the Coolermaster is .8 dBA quieter than the Nexus, and has better airflow by 5.86CFM

After hearing/owning both and reading too many reviews on fans I would guess that CM fan to be ~24-25 dBA. For the price, they are very quiet fans. Out of my samples, the Nexus is quieter when they are both at ~1000rpm and the Nexus feels to move more air, BUT when both the fans are around 650 rpm they are both inaudible from 3 feet away. You just get a quieter top end fan with the Nexus. They are closed chassis fans as well....the CM's are open.
