Hi all.

I have the following rig:

xp2500 barton @ 2.156ghz (at the moment, temps are too high for my liking hence the speed.. vcore set to 1.65v, cpu set to 10x215, memory set to 3/3)
nf7-s rev 2 with 2.45nforce 2 drivers installed
maxtor 120gig ata133 hard drive
pioneer dvd-rom and pioneer dvd-rw drive
standard 350W psu (that came with the case, its a chenbro gaming box)
geforce 3 ti 200 using 43.45 drivers

the only problem im having is keeping the cpu and the case to a good low temp. now i have a 92mm fan at the front of the case and a 80mm fan at the back (it can hold a 120mm fan which i have, but my psu dont like it as it shuts down the pc) and i have an uprated 80mm fan on my falcon rock 2 heatsink which pushes 45CFM of air onto the heatsink rather than the 27CFM.

now i know my heatsink choice isnt great, although before its been keeping my girl friends xp1700 @ 2.2ghz rather cool, but not this barton for some reason.. but anyway.
im would like to buy the following but i wanted peoples opinions on them as i prefer hearing what people have to say about them before i buy..

Vantec Nexus NXP-201 fan controller (for upto 4 fans using a maximum of 18W per fan)
Thermalright SLK-900U or 900A whichever is better
Vantec Tornado 92mm fan for the above heatsink. (hence why i need to get a fan controller!!!)
Antec True Power 480W psu

i have got 2 120mm YS Tech fans (38mm depth type as well) and when they are both in use (for a limited time) the pc shuts itself down, so i gather i need a better psu to cope with the amount of power being drawn off of it hence the antec true power 480w psu, would this be enough?
Im really not sure about a controller, so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. and really the same goes for the heatsink and fan combo, but i gathered the more the air that can go on it, the better. anyone got any preferences?

please can someone let me know whether or not this above combo would be the best bet for my rig as the cpu temps under full load are about 50c to 52c and the system temps are around 26c to 28c. im wanting the cpu around or below 40c and as for the system temp, as low as possible. like i said, i have 2 120mm case fans, one to go on the back and then one to go on the side by or around the graphics card area (hopefully its not to wide!!) when i can find something to cut out a hole for it.

i look forward to the replies thanks for the help guys

honestly... i dont see anything wrong with a 50c load temp...
i think that PSU is overkill but if thats what you want... no problem with that. if you can find the slk-900a for $20 then go for it.

see for me the 50C load temp is too high, i much prefer something under 40C..
why is the psu overkill? my 350w psu cant handle 2 120mm fan along with all the other bits i have mentioned.. it just stops working.. i figured i needed something with a little more kick to it (so to speak )

just get a name brand PSU a 350-400 is all you need

1. Enermax Whisper 350 ~$60
2. Zalman "Noise-Free" ~$100 Link
3. SilenX ~$100Link

are 3 im debating on now...even though enermax is suppose to release some super quite PSU even though 14db from the SilenX is already incredible for its power and stability

why only have someting thats only 350 to 400w?? isnt that a little risky when it could run out/not have enough power in reserve or something? i was considering the antec true power 430W...

friend has a nexus. at first it burned out on him. then he got a new one and hes loved it since. i stuck with my choice and got the sunbeam one. 20 watts per channel is a lot of power. i've loved mine the second i put mine in and turned my computer on

is there a lot of difference between the two? i just want to have more than enough of a 'space' i guess, i just want to make sure i have more in reserve than i actually need. i dont like having to buy things twice, so i prefer to pay that little bit more and have more than i actually need.. i think its easier that way..

each channel can support up to four case fans. It can easily handle the tornado. but i would leave it on its own channel since it spins so much faster and uses more power than case fans.

Its also cheaper than the nexus. ~20 bucks shipped @ svc.

if i was going to do it, i was going to put each fan i have on a separate channel anyway, would this be a good way of doing it or not?

got a volcano 12 a couple weeks ago and love it. keeping my 2600+ barton(2083mhz) @ 2250mhz - 12.5 x180fsb with a 1 deg temp diff. 43c to 44c . thats running approx1/3 speed so i can still hear.
good luck

well im had read that a slk-900a and a tornado @ 2600rpm was near silent, so im guessing that would be ideal plus it was keeping the temps right down..
this is the link i was saying about..

i took sorta the un orthadox approach i took all of , my fans out cept my cpu , took the sides off , got a 12" 12v radiator fan leaned it against the side , hooked it to the 5v side of the power supply it isnt' as loud as you might think i got a trmendous amount of dist collecting on every tthing so i put a regular filter like the one that goes in your furnace , wala now i have a cool chip cool ,motherboard and it stays nice and clean pluss the added benifit of a house full of clean air . this thing moves so much air the filter is dirty in about a week but i get NO dust in my box at all

well thats ideal!! im just intending to use filters and cleaning them out, i dont know if my girl friend would like a darn great radiator fan on the side of the case! shes already impressed with the amount of air the 2 120mm fans move!! i cant wait to get this thing up and working i really cant..

Personally I think your power supply choice is a good one. Cheap/med range PSU's are stupid. Just get an Antec and be done with it

Get an SLK-900a

However 50c isnt that bad. Mine is about 40c and 46c at load with an slk 900a and a panaflo L1a. I had a 92 mm fan on there and it was down around 36c but I couldnt stand the noise.

the noise isnt to bad at the moment but then i have the side of the case, slightly off and my temps are very good, 39C under a full load with my cpu clocked at 2.1ghz.. (10x210 @ 1.625vcore in the bios)

i dont want to have to pay out twice when it comes to the psu, id just rather pay out more first time and get something like that and then worry about money later!! i will get a fan controller to calm the noise down, so until then i dont and cant use the 120mm fans i have gutted im getting the tornado and lowering the speed to about 2500 to 3000rpm and seeing what it gives me.. hopefully not to much noise and a very cool cpu thanks for the help there muchly appreaited

i only know of a few places to get the controllers from and where im going to buy the psu, heatsink and fan from, i figured i may as well buy the controller as well, it would cost a little less in p&p!! heres the link for the fan controllers i have a choice from.

whats wrong with the vantec controllers? im aiming to spend less then £50 on one, i was hoping for something around £20 to £30 in all honesty.. i didnt think that there would be much of a difference in them.. am i wrong?
