OK so earlier this week I put together my new computer. Components are: ABIT KV8Pro, Athlon64 3000+ s754, Zalman CNPS7000b, Tagan TG480-U01 480watt Powersupply. I started it up and formatted and all that business. I put the motherboard monitoring software in, and start to check temps etc. Well my idle temp was like 44-45C. Which seemed high but not outrageous. So then I decided to fire up Prime95 to see what it would jump to underload. The thing went through the roof. Jumped all the way to 67-68C after only about 2 of the 1024k tests. So today, I remove the heatsink and chip and clean all the Arctic Silver 5 off. I regrease both with the crap that came with the Zalman since I used up the rest of my roomate's AS5 when I greased it the first time. So now I get 42-43C idle and 65C after running Prime for 30min. 65C is still obviously way too high. System temp stays around 31-32C no matter what the CPU is doing. What should I do now? I have the stock AMD heatsink I suppose I could try that but I dont see how that would make much difference.
Cliff's Notes:
1. Built new computer
2. Temps were way to high under load
3. Cleaned and regreased chip/heatsink
4. Temps still 65C under load.
5. What to do now?
6. Put AMD sink on?
7. Could the chip potentially just be spewing garbage temp readings?
