Okay, here's my situation.
I'm building a new system around the Athlon XP 1700+. I do not intend to overclock this system. Since I've ordered an OEM proc, I'll need a chip cooler to go with it.
My mobo is the Shuttle AK31, and it does have mounting holes for a cooler in the board as well as what looks like decent clearance around the processor. My criteria for a cooler are:
Some more info: this is going in a cheapass fairly cramped case, which has room for a 60mm exhaust fan on the back and an 80mm intake fan on the front. The case itself is going to be going in another box (for more details on that, click here) which will limit the airflow around it.
I've purchased a Volcano 7, but I think I'm going to return it, since it seems like it only meets criterion #3 of the four listed above. It's got that simple single clip to hold it on... I hate those. I'm always sweating when I'm applying heavy downward pressure on a screwdriver millimeters above my motherboard.
Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

- Cheap
- Quiet
- Adequate cooling... again, not overclocked, but probably still pretty hot anyway.
- Safety... that is, low-risk installation
