Cool'n quiet while overclocking question

I suggest a compromise. Disable cool and quiet and run at the stock settings. It doesn't work with my version of windows, so this is what I do.

I've used CnQ in conjunction with RMclock with my overclocked rig for months and it works great. When my computer is idling or doing no CPU intense apps it runs 1.5ghz on 1.1v, when I fire up anything CPU intense it ramps up the 2.8ghz at 1.55v

mine is running CnQ w/ no problems... but now instead of 1ghz as the slow speed it runs at 1250 or so @1.1-1.2v and my max cpu speed is 2298 or so @1.45v....
i havent done anything special just HTT at 260 i think.

I always recommend it to everyone. It also runs flawless with my new Opteron. But beware: CnQ and those tools only work if you overclock based on the max multiplier!!!

Yes...and switch windows power management to the "minimal power management" profile...and install the amd processor drivers...

Reason for the max multiplier is that Windows kicks in the max multi during bootup with CnQ enabled. If you overclock with a lower multi, your comp will freeze upon that for sure...

No haven't run into problems yet (lagging in games or such), so I don't bother patching until I get probs of some sort.
Sorry, no screenie here at work...
But one thing to mention is the voltage set in RmClock always translates to a ~0.1v higher figure in the real world...but that may depend on the mobo...

Do you mean that RMClock's numbers might be to high or be to low?

BTW I think I've got the exact same RAM as you. Are yours also the XLPT's or are yours the pro or whatever they're called?
Your strategy seems different than mine though. Some say higher ram-frequency w. looser timings> lower ram-frequency w. tighter timings.

Whereas I can adjust voltages up to 1.55 in bios, RMClock only gives me 1.45 max as an option, however ending in "real world" 1.55...no issue, but something to remember while setting. However, as I said this may be different for your board.

Regarding mem I for my part are in favor of tighter timings. However, with A64s it does not matter anyhow. Differences of 1-2% still have to be evidenced for one or the other...
My current 193MHz on the mem are not satisfactory of course. However, I plan on overclocking further.... But when I end up sticking with 2700MHz, I definitely will loosen timings and go for 245 MHz memory frequency with a lower divider....this will be indeed faster then...
And mem is the XL, yes (plain black heatspreaders)

thats interesting Doctor about the volts.

i haven't used rmclock since starting dc projects last year. the last cpu i used it with was a 3700 sandy and i know i could get 1.55v as my 24/7 oc, 250x11 required 1.54v.

so i just checked with my x2 3800 and now my max voltage is 1.4v. same board so it must be chip dependant.

I don't understand how it's possible to overclock with RMClock or CrystalCPUID.
I have a athlon64 3200+ Winchester, which normally runs at 10 x 200, Vmem 1.400V.
It's possible to overclock Prime95 stable with ClockGen to 10 x 240, Vmem 1.566V. without using RMClock or CrystalCPUID.
In both programs only the multplier (FID) can be changed and not the FSB.
It would be nice to have for instance 3 levels:
Minimum: 5 x 200, Vmem 1.100V
Nomal: 10 x 200, Vmen 1.400V
Maximum: 10 x 240, Vmem 1.566V

Is this possible, or can I achieve it on another way.
