But without the video, it'd be a whole different ballgame.

Very true. The video tells the story.

Well if this goes to trial it will then be in the hands of a jury that historically have given officers a lot of leeway. Let's hope the jury can make the correct decision and not be swayed by the fact that it is a police officer and they are held to the same standard.

That's what i was thinking.

What gets me is how casual the cop is about the whole thing. he walks up and tosses the tazer at the dead guy like it's no big deal.

It seems to me the cop should have seen the guy taking the video, too. He looked right over.

Also, the guy doesn't seem shocked when the cop fires, only when he starts walking closer after the situation is mostly over does he say oh shit.

Gotta give the guy who shot that video some props for getting closer after the shooting. If I had evidence of a cop murdering someone that blatantly and then planting a weapon on him I'd be running away before he shot me too. Cop is willing to murder one person and try to cover it there's no reason for him not to murder a second person too.
That was my thought too after the WTF is this cop doing reaction. Perhaps he saw the other cop off camera and knew he would not let that happen. If South Carolina doesn't want an LA style riot, they damn well better not let this cretin off. They would do well to actually execute him because he would meet a harsher ending at the hands of inmates.

You're missing the point. Might as well tell me the grass is green in the video that is obviously showing a black and white man just above the paragraph.

Also, that cop is a POS who will be charged with and convicted of murder. This is not going to go the same as those other incidents.

Ok, I get that, but keep in mind that they are writing an article with the goal being to be as comprehensive as possible about both the shooting and the broader implications of it. Yeah, people can infer that from the video/picture, but they are a newspaper (and a damned good one too) that still thank goodness primarily actually writes articles rather than relying on delivering through video.

Anyways, we are way off topic...

That video I can't even imagine the cop trying to get a trial. His best bet would be to plead guilty in exchange for life and some sort of protection that keeps him out of general pop. South Carolina does have the death penalty and you're right about the riots. They have to either fry this guy or at least lock him up forever or there is going to be a shitstorm.

I think this would be a more appropriate reason for race riots and demonstrations compared to Ferguson. Lets see what I see on the news tomorrow. I look forward to seeing that cop convicted and put in jail. Does S. Carolina have the death penalty?

Exactly this.

The cop supposedly claimed the guy reached for his taser... and in the video something flies out behind the two of them at waist level and lands behind the officer. Perhaps the cop didn't realize the guy didn't get the taser. That is the only question I have.

Either way, he is going up the river.

Except that story falls to pieces when the cop runs back to his taser to grab it.

I may be going out on a limb, but I think a murder conviction is likely with at least 25 years. I wouldn't be surprised if they toss around the death penalty. This guy will made an example... especially with the recent controversies over cop shootings, this dude will bear the brunt. Deservedly.

No way with the death penalty. They'd have to pretty much prove he was planning to kill someone that day on patrol. I'd probably say the most he would possibly get in today's climate is murder 2, but that would still be incredibly hard to prove. I think we are more likely to see voluntary manslaughter.

unarmed individual murdered by cops for no reason. Sounds like they're playing the same game to me.

Broken tail light versus robbery. Unreliable witnesses vs video evidence.

Because of that totally honest police report cop filed I learned CPR can be performed without touching.

Once more, just one bad apple

Flipping through the cable news channels on the tv just now, CNN & MSNBC, it's breaking news...FOX News...Exclusive one on one interview with Hannity & Randy.

Checked out Kelly file to see how Fox would cover. It got 30 seconds towards the end of show during discussions of other topics.
