Wow, look at the circle jerk. What no one seems to have mentioned yet is that if this attempted cop murderer (he reached for the taser, it seems) kept running in the direction he was going he would have looped around, eventually ending up exactly where he started and, much worse, he would be coming up from behind the cop. The officer was forced to shoot to the man to protect himself and to ensure Mr. Scott could no longer terrorize South Carolina with his broken tail light.
Alternatively: If he didn't want to get shot, he shouldn't have run.
I was driving to hockey this after I read the story and wondering how Fox would cover it. My guess was that they would give minimal, perfunctory coverage, and wait for someone in the "Mainstream Media" to say something stupid, like anti-cop or something, and then turn that into the story, and flog it as long as possible.

That cop probably shouldn't have urinated on the criminal after he shot it. That would be going a little overboard.
That cop would've been fucked either way - the guy got hit in the back with all 8 (presumably) and the shell casings are nowhere near the body. Can't change that with or without the video. Send him to jail.

That's not true at all. Look up Photography Is Not A Crime. Most of those guys are white and they get detained, assaulted and arrested quite frequently.
I think it was much more of the cop was too busy planting evidence and trying to get away with murder. I didn't see him look anywhere besides at the guy he just killed and at the spot where he dropped the taser. He had tunnel vision for sure.

The cop supposedly claimed the guy reached for his taser... and in the video something flies out behind the two of them at waist level and lands behind the officer. Perhaps the cop didn't realize the guy didn't get the taser. That is the only question I have.
Either way, he is going up the river.
And this is what will get the officer off. He had every reason to shoot and fear for his life. He didn't know if the perp had a gun or not and would shoot back at him.
I may be going out on a limb, but I think a murder conviction is likely with at least 25 years. I wouldn't be surprised if they toss around the death penalty. This guy will made an example... especially with the recent controversies over cop shootings, this dude will bear the brunt. Deservedly.
