you can tell cops have no fear when it comes to their job security or the law.

"go do something about it", "i don't give a shit"

glad the douche got fired.

I can tell Canadians are terrible at writing and have no idea how to capitalize sentences.

See what I did there?

I've always wanted to get out of my car, pick up the cigarette that some asshat flicked out of their window (preferably still burning), walk up to their car and toss it back in saying, "You dropped this."

I have done this on a motorcycle... in a state where I could lane-split away.

"Here. You dropped this."

I'm inclined to agree that cops (not all, but too many of them) are getting a bit out of control. Once upon a time people felt safer and happy around police. These days more people are paranoid because it seems as if they're all out to find any little thing to ticket you with, or in some way trick you into doing something illegal.

Where I live, there are a lot of small towns (fewer than 1000 population) that have 2-5 brand new patrol cars and these cops that act like they're just out of training. They bust people for ANYTHING they can find to write a ticket for. Harassing the public for funds so they can add more cars to the department, instead of, you know, putting it into the community or something constructive.

You don't want to go back to what people call "the good old days". Trust me.

Can't watch the video right now, but it sounds like the cop got trolled, ate the bait, and made an ass of himself. That probably should be grounds for discipline/remediation, not firing, but I don't know the specifics and in the end he's responsible for his reaction.

That's more or less what happened. It's always true that public servants should maintain their composure in situations like this, but the people who go fishing for confrontation under the false pretense of righting some perceived wrong, but really are just looking for something incriminating to slap on youtube infuriate me.

Before they started the shit they started, nobody was angry at anybody else. They had to instigate the entire episode in order to have anything to show at all. If they really were only concerned about the candy wrapper, they'd have taken note of the car's license plate number and called it in to the station. People like that never seem to be able to use their power to do good though. All they can do is cause real damage to people's lives in return for a tiny bit of inconsequential internet notoriety. They're small people with small minds that they put to use only to hurt others.

The cop got fired for that? Lmao. Poor guy. Just another set of dumbasses looking for YouTube fame by fucking with cops. What the hell was he supposed to do, get on his knees, beg a couple douche lords for forgiveness, and pick up his trash?

Some cops are true heroes. A few are dirtbags. Most are just normal men and women trying to do a tough, dangerous job.

I met a cop once who ran into a burning building to drag a homeless man out, sucking up so much smoke in the process that he permanently damaged his lungs and had to be retired. He was only 26. The kicker is that years before he was born, his father, a young cop himself at the time, had done the same thing in a burning building and was also retired due to his injuries.

I got to take a photo of the father/son ex-cops together for a newspaper story. If I saw either of those two litter I would give him a pass.

Title should read "Litterer in my town got busted for also being a cop."

I can't stand littering and yet I don't think that he should have been fired.

People act like the double-standard that police are subject to is liberating and let's them do what they want when it actually means they have to wear body cameras and be afraid to defend themselves with deadly force even when exposed to deadly threats.

Why the fuck not?! What do you think would happen to you if a cop nailed you for littering? You could beg all you want, but you'd still be paying the ticket; unless you argued of course. Then you'd get your head cracked open, and you'd be sitting in jail.

Only the ones who instigate altercations over minor issues for the express purpose of posting something scandalous on the Internet.

Generally I told people to pick it back up. WTF is your problem?

and what if they basically told you to go fuck yourself like that cop did? My problem is "privileged" cops, and more immediately, my problem is your constant defense of them, contradicting what I've personally seen and experienced.

Oh, the thread you posted a whole 30 minutes ago. I've been busy with dinner, and hadn't seen it. Since you pointed it out to me, it's not really the kind of thread I post in anyway, cop or not.

i see my punctuation was ok for you.

if a cop can not abide by the law, how can he be trusted to enforce the law.

You haven't overtly in this particular thread aside from telling me what /you'd/ do, which of course implies that this particular guy is a "bad apple", and not representative of a group. There's no doubt he's a bad apple, but he's very representative of the group.

Even if I'm wrong, and it's only a significant minority of cops that are bad; it's still tolerated far more than it should be. Instead of deference, they should be nailed to a fuckin' cross, because violation of trust, and abuse of power are about the worst crimes that can be committed.
