Im curious why they were required to stay in Honolulu for 6 months after this. How is that in anyway related to whatever trumped up charge they were accused of? Not to mention the cop was off-duty.

...Uhhhh if you're called to court, I don't think you can run away brah. Hence, they were stuck there.

If it was a traffic ticket you can just pay the fee and be gone, but this was more than just a citation.

6 months is kind of weird for a public kissing charge especially if you don't live there. Why didn't they ask or get granted a quicker trial?
Its just odd I still say there is more to this story.

I think the charge was assault on a police officer. Chances are they saw it was a BS charge so they kept them there hoping they would take a plea deal so they could leave. That way it hurts them if they try and sue and the DA gets another check mark on his conviction rate. In this case the girls seemed to hold out for the truth, most do not, and you never hear of it or see they plead guilty to "attacking a fine upstanding officer of the law" and ignore them.

This is a plausible explanation thanks

All cops involved and the DA should be charged with kidnapping, extortion, assault, battery - tried, convicted and then executed in a public hanging.

Six months stuck in Hawaii unable to leave because of bogus charges trumped up against you. I guess that's what you get for "sorting it out at the police station".

Highest per capita homeless rate in the country. Tons of people working full time jobs and living on the streets due to outrageous cost of living. It blows my mind that people willingly move here. Of course, most people who move here leave within 18 months because of all those problems. I've got 30 months to go and I wouldn't even come back for vacation. It's a third world country pretending at being a state.

It's like Jamaica, awesome if you have means, but a hellhole if you don't.

I wouldn't live here by choice if I had all the money in the world. Seeing as how I don't, I wouldn't take a job here paying less than $350k/yr.

There used to be a regular poster here who did GIS work for the state of Hawaii. He ended up leaving because the state expects their employees to be on public benefits and he was going into debt.

Was that Whoozeyerdaddy or however it was spelled? If so, damn, I remember him being so happy initially about the move there from Alaska.

Story does sound like something out of 1950's rural Georgia. Surprised to see that happen in Hawaii. The charges being dropped gives more credence to their story.

The actual "charges" had been the assault charges, but this is not relevant for me, this came once the thing already turned chaotic. I want to know what right the p.o. had to forbid the girls kissing in the first place.

Seriously...a police officer intervening because a home/hetero/whatever/irrelevant couple KISSING....it blows my mind.

A slightly more balanced look

http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/31/us/hawaii-kissing-couple-arrest-same-sex/index.html

Still vague but it appears the business asked them to leave, I'm not saying that was the right decision but they were asked. Things escalated from there.

That would change things quite a bit. The property owner can ask anyone to leave, HOWEVER, they could come back and sue if they believed they were discriminated against under a protected class. I'm not saying it is right at all, but if the property owner was involved and they initiated the complaint then it does change the story.

I almost forgot, its not clear if they could not leave the state because they were ordered not to or simply didn't have the money to leave the state and come back for a court appearance.

To be clear I'm not trying to say what happened here is right or that I agree with it.

I'd love to know the housing situation. I can't understand how you could be stuck in Hawaii for six months but not have any money to get home. No friends or Family to borrow some cash from? Where are you living outside of Hawaii how is that rent getting paid?

You've never seen anyone kiss and hold hands in a grocery store? I don't believe you.

Don't believe me then, but no I have never seen anyone kiss and or hold hands in a grocery store, people are you know, buying groceries and its usually pretty crowded. The most physical contact I see is when folks are throwing elbows trying to get their deli meats.

404: making Out Not Found:

I'd find it hard to believe these folks got that hard of a time for holding hands and a quick peck on the cheek.

Haven't lived there in 30 years myself, but I doubt it has changed and has maybe gotten worse.

The cost of living there has been outrageous for a long time.
