Exactly right.

I've seen a situation like this happen in real life. No one is going to get in a fight for a dumb bitch that started shit she couldn't handle. I saw a black girl go ballistic at a small bar in uptown Dallas. Her and some guy had ordered the same drink, the bartender made the drink, and the guy took it. She said it was her drink, he said he ordered first, she said, "Ain't you ever heard of ladies first motherfucker?" He said, "Where I'm from, ladies don't talk like that," and took a sip of his drink. She slapped the drink down out of his hand and slapped him across the face. He pushed her back, she jumped at him and scratched his neck and scalp, he pushed her back again, she jumped at him again and he caught her with a knee to the gut and a downward elbow strike to the face. She crumpled to the floor and didn't move for a good 5 seconds. Then she started shrieking, "he broke my nose! he broke my nose!" She was bleeding all over the place. The bouncers & cops arrive, the bartender tells them she started it, two of my buddies talked to the cops (they're both cops too) and 10 minutes later crazy bitch is on her way to the hospital under arrest and the dude is sitting back at the bar drinking free drinks for the rest of the night.

Not a retreating opponent. If the lady had retreated at any time, your buddy would have been charged too.

maybe.... :\

i just saw the gif though and felt rage.

ok... just watched the vid... i've seen it before. he is clearly harassing her and then he touches her first, possibly a push, on the shoulder. he's a jackass, confirmed.
IMHO, both are jackasses.

I don't know the full story but angry over the gif or vid is silly.

That said, the cop and judge are going to feel some heat for this.

I wasn't trying to draw a direct analogue, but instead was countering some people's views that it's never ok to hit a woman, despite how outrageous she may be acting.

you and i both, not knowing the exact details, it's not like the woman threw a drink in his face for no reason. i don't advocate the drink throwing, but getting wet does not equal the slam to the ground he dealt her. he's clearly a jackass.
Agreed.

I just think that it is a predictable outcome that she could have avoided.

Fair enough, I didn't say you were. I was just responding to the guy that, in my mind, supported the action of the gif because of your story. In that situation, I don't know how I'd act, I'd probably try to block and back off, if they pressed, maybe I'd send a jab to the face and try to escape then.

Women can get hit, but only if they are actively involved in violence, a man has a right to defend himself. The woman that slaps me and walks away, or throws a drink and walks away, is not open to violence. A man eating a taco, as well, should be safe from violence.

Edit: Disregard the sexist pronouns, anyone that does those things to me is open to the same response. Hurt feelings and a burning cheek are not enough to continue violence.

I have only actually been in one altercation with a female opponent outside of karate, and since it was my GF, I may have been able to have more restraint than I would with a stranger. That said, when she hauled off a round house punch, I adjusted the angle of my jaw to take the blow. Subtly, it may have been more to show her that I could control myself and that it was unlikely that she would hurt me, but in the end it was restraint. With proper training a larger opponent should be able to minimize aggressivenes and deescalate the situation with minimal harm to the lesser opponent. To some extent the leg sweep is often the least aggressive maneuver.

He could have easily gotten his own beer to pour on her head.

My original assertion thou remains that her actions are a minor assault and she should be able to predict that his actions would return with a more major assault.

I will translate for those afflicted with feminist affective disorder:

if you can dish it out, you should be able to take it.
meh, not worth it, really.

this female wouldn't have thrown a drink in the asshole's face. I would have told him to fuck off though as he was harassing her. if he didn't leave and kept harassing, as he did, i would have to get someone to more sternly show him i wasn't going to put up with his shit any longer.

how's that for your feminist affective disorder???

"lol weak woman, go hide behind a brawny man, hide so far behind, you're in the kitchen!"

It's lose-lose for women. Your way would be nice, have a 6'4" 250 guy walk over and "kindly" ask the guy to stop being a douche. Hopefully the guy would still feel tough so the party could have some good entertainment.

lol

I have seen so much of this stuff over the years. Women causing fights because they are either drunk or just out of control. And who gets blamed most of the time? A man. Its always a man's fault.

I prefer to leave the area of someone that's behaving like that. However, once she hits someone its game over. She deserves what she gets.

Sometimes, though, there is no authority around to help out. Stepping in could blow the whole situation out of control.

Although it is hard, the most appropriate behavior is to deescalate the matter. Gather some friends and remove yourself from the situation. Alternately, if you involve friends, for example sitting at a table or bar. It will be difficult for the other party to continue harrassing you, without harrassing others if they must go through others to get to you.

My technique is always to get between the offender and any female in my party. Usually, these assholes will be unwilling to bother me to get to her. If they do then they can expect a measured but decisive action to terminate the situation. Verbal harassement can be easily ignored, as I have rarely heard anything intelligent or poinent out of the mouth of an intoxicated individual.

Also, expect that I will restrain anyone in my party that intends to initiate a physical altercation. Lovingly and respectfully but I will prevent such actions if I am present.

Gee, maybe if the cop did not "forget" about the situation and went to court you would have heard his side.

I also forgot, attitude is the perfect reason to get locked up + broken leg.

I don't care if the cops feelings were hurt because he thought he was disrespected, breaking the heart of a cop is not breaking the law, sorry.

"Attitude" isn't illegal, and the victim admitted to making a smartass statement anyway. Learn how to read.

The unarguable fact in this case is that the victim's leg was broken, yet he was denied medical attention for nearly a day. If you believe that "attitude" justifies torture and potentially permanent disability, I hope you receive the same treatment.

The thing that I don't understand is, lets say that it was his beer and he was therefore committing a crime. What motivated the officer to be so aggressive. I would think that even if the victim was mouthy, something had to tick this officer off enough to take the guy down. This is one of those stories that has to have more to it. Is this just a bad cop. Did he just find out that hooker he took a feebie from had the clap? Did he know the victim? Is the victim a known dirtbag? Does the judge know this guy? Something just doesnt smell right here.

Also you get used to people being dicks to you fast as a cop. They're smart asses, and they say horrible, nasty things. If you can't handle it, you shouldn't be a cop.

Working in the ER, I have many friends that are police officers. I often say that they show amazing restraint. Much more than I am capable of. I am sure that many lose it occ. Not that it is right but I can see how it would be difficult not to.

This PDF has some additional information.

It's pretty damning stuff. His leg was fractured, yet he was denied medical attention for almost a day. That's abhorrent even if the arrest was legitimate.

Subtle legal humor?

Artis was not armed with or in possession of a deadly weapon; he was, however, in legal and actual possession of a taco, which Artis did not wield in any threatening manner

Without either warning or being told he was under arrest, Rollins grabbed Artis by his
still taco-laden arm, and spun Artis around with great force, which pivoted Artis on his left leg
and sent the hapless taco flying.
