I'm guessing I don't have to guess that this happened in the US? Freaking power hungry cops. They're probably proud of what they did too, and will probably get a promotion for it.

I'm a dog lover and I don't take issue with the police shooting the dog in that particular situation. It's a large dangerous breed that was running amok and clearly attacked the cops. They have every right to take it down.

I have a big problem with the cops arresting the dog's owner like that. With that video as evidence that he didn't do anything that warranted arrest he's going to own their ass.

I don't think it works like that.

As far as the dog the cops would be responsible for the $$ value, the real $$ comes into play as to why he was arrested in the first place. You can see people in their yards that were much close than he was, did they clearly define a crime scene with yellow tape as to advise people not to get any closer?, no.
I think this vid goes viral really fast.

We need a precedent upon which individual cops can be sued directly for everything they have in cases like these, without protection in any form by union/etc. We also need them to be filmed 100% of the time they are on duty, without the ability to edit or hide any footage. After all, "if you're doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide" Right?

Guy should have just driven off after filming. Instead, He must have said something to the cops for them to approach him.

RIP dog.

Yea, he did have a chance to hop in and go but really he wasn't breaking any laws, maybe he forgot his windows were rolled down..

This page has a lot of information.

The dog is considered property under most state laws. A court would have to determine whether the destruction of the property was reasonable or unreasonable.

Also, in section IV - B. Individual Officers Immunity
"Many cases involving animal shootings will involve an officer who claims to have reasonably believed that the animal was a danger or a threat. If the circumstances do show that the animal was a threat or that under reasonable circumstances could have been perceived as a threat, the courts will genially allow the immunity to stand."

I'm pretty sure the cops were in their legal right.

I think they acted unreasonably though, despite acting lawfully. But what do I know. I'm not a cop.

A tragedy. If only that guy rolled up his windows more.

Not in the legal right to detain.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was talking about the killing of the dog. :'(

My only thing is since they illegally arrested the guy that is what led to the dog killing so even though they were in the right kinda they caused it.

All true, but my point is he has civil rights to stand on a street and film with his phone, if the cops had established a barrier or taped off an area then yea, he should not be there but I didn't see anything like that, and like I said earlier, other people were on some lawns closer than he was.

Kinda caused it? The dog's owner was being attacked. A good dog will try to do something about that.

It's showing "301+ views", that has to be way, way off, I'm surprised YT hasn't found a reason to take it down..

If he was arrested for filming then that's horse shit. The law is about as clear as it can be, with even the DOJ weighing in with a lengthy memo, that filming the police in public is protected by the 1st Amendment. Yet there is no shortage of people continuing to be arrested for just that.

It does that for videos that have a lot of views in a short space of time. The video has gone viral I'm sure.
