"Biele was outraged by the officers' actions and the
inconsistencies in the account. She said
police first told her that her brother had been fiddling with the nozzle in his lap, then police Chief Jim McDonnell said Zerby was actually pointing it at the officers."

maybe, just maybe, he wasn't pointing that damn thing at all
<edit>or maybe they walked up, told them who they were, and he decided to point it at them.</edit> apparently the cops admit they didn't have a chance to id themselves. i retract this part.
what do you think the sister is going to say? she might be giving incorrect details herself, and not even realize it. people don't always remember things in high stress situations.
if you show me a record of these cops shooting people all the time for no reason, i'll believe it was malicious. otherwise, it's a case of stupid drunk guy gets himself shot, being stupid.
"Our brother was killed for no reason," she said. "We're outraged. You can't get drunk in the city of Long Beach and not get shot? You're trying to do the responsible thing and not drive and you get shot? Is that standard protocol? They didn't wait for backup, they just shot him."
no, he was shot for pointing an object that looked like a gun at police officers. and i'm sure a lot of people get drunk every day in long beach without getting shot, but they don't point things that look like guns at police officers. and yes, i'm sure it is standard protocol to shoot someone who appears to be pointing a gun at them.
Staci Liken, 45, said she saw a police car and a Long Beach Marine Patrol SUV make a U-turn before two officers got out and made their way to the back building where Zerby was sitting. She said within 30 seconds she heard two types of gunshots. She counted at least 15 shots fired.
15 shots? really? he didn't even die at the scene. unless they were going at it gunslinger style, i can't imagine they shot and/or missed that much.
it's tragic. it really is. it was senseless. but you can't ask the police to put their lives on the line for you, and then condemn them for protecting themselves.
