That is what a small segment of society wants and needs.

These are the same people who have said numerous times on the forums that if you see a criminal in your neighborhood it is your "duty" to run to the basement and call 911. These are the same people who say you should jump out of a 2nd floor window before shooting someone who forced their way into your home.

I don't understand how anyone in America is ok with cops executing someone like this. Argue the semantics of murder vs. killing but either way it's an execution without due process.

I don't know what gets taught to civilians and cops but in the Marines I was taught blows to the head with batons and other blunt instruments were lethal force. Strikes to the arms and legs were non-lethal. So these cops hitting him in the head with baton strikes are attempts to use lethal force against this guy.

Why is it Marines get taught appropriate levels of force to use against someone and cops either don't or get a pass when they violate that and execute someone?

This country has seriously gone batshit insane with the authoritarian bullshit.

The perp was clearly resisting arrest by laying on the ground making himself dead weight, their only choice to get him up was to beat him about the head with their batons to "encourage" him to cooperate. Since the skull is designed to protect the brain, and is rather thick it is the obvious choice for blows instead of the softer, more easily damaged tissue of the arms, and legs ...duh.

How exactly would they "answer to the citizens?" Would they have to follow the Constitution? Would there still be courts and trials? You'd have to establish rules about what they can and cannot do. You'd have to pay them for what they do. Any reasonable process of accountability and you have police. No reasonable process of accountability and you have a vigilante mob.

BTW you don't know shit about the actual frequency of police brutality, do you? Admit that you're just making stuff up and I'll let it go.

No, it would be open season on anyone who isn't lily white. When someone talks of putting things in the hands of citizens or militias, they basically want lynch mobs.

While I don't agree with some of these over the top generalizations about cops, the more I read about this incident, the worse it looks for the police. For example, one of the cops was involved in a prior incident beating a man to death, and the family sued and won $4.5 million from Kern County. That's a lot of money for a county government. It's mind boggling that any of the officers involved in that incident continued to be employed by the Sherrif's department:

Ryan Greer was the officer involved in both this incident and the prior one.

As both vics were Hispanic, naturally the Hispanic community in Bakersfield is up in arms about this. Echos of Rodney King but worse because neither victim survived.

I think Kern County is in for another huge monetary hit here. What a scandal for the Sheriff's department.

So do his gangster buddies buy him 2 drinks instead of one now whenever they all hang out?

Officer's beating someone up simply b/c he won't comply is one of the things that really piss me off.

There are usually like 4+ cops vs one (usually drunk) guy. All of a sudden the cops get pissed off at the guy b/c he's yelling at them. Don't you think the cops should have thick enough skin to not respond to a stupid drunk guy's insults? It's like they take pleasure in body slamming the dude to the ground, tazing him, and crushing his face into the concreate while 2 other 200lb dudes knee his back while putting on handcuffs.

I almost always side with cops, but they need more self control. Maybe they should smoke some of that weed they like to confiscate and it might chill them out a little. They are wound so tight and seem to enjoy beating up defenseless people.

Of course we are only seeing the 1% that is out of line. I'm sure like any profession in general, the 99% are great officers and hold their tempers. The 1% give the rest of bad rep.
