Has anyone had experience using DVD X Copy to copy and burn their backup DVDs? Does it actually backup its' claims? Does it copy all or most DVDs and would you know of a list of DVDs that have been successfully copied? THX

:disgust: Since I started this thread, I purchased DVD XCopy. I have the Sony 500AX and the Sony 1621 DVD-Rom. I used Nero 5.5.10.15 to burn a copy onto a DVD-RW (w/WinXP). Everything went OK and it plays on the DVD-Rom using PowerDVD, Windows Media Player and Real plus my laptop, component DVD player and car DVD player. But in an effort to keep things up-to-date (which I have always tried to do), I guess I threw the fan into the sh#t! I updated the 500AX from firmware 2.0c to 2.0e and Nero 5.5.10.15 to 5.5.10.20. The only thing I haven't updated is DVD XCopy from 1.4.xxx to 1.5. Since updating, I have had sound that in good in one player and not the other, and Nero telling me that there is not enough room on a blank DVD-R when I'm trying to burn 3.6 GB that I just ripped with DVD XCopy. I know, sometimes I should just leave things alone! Has anyone come across anything similar?

I've used DVDXCopy, and for the most part, it back's up it's claim. My big problem is that most times it requires 2 discs to do most movies. I've since switched to using dvddecrypter/dvd2one/nero. Despite using 3 programs, this is very very simple to do.

1) Use DVDDecrypter rip the dvd to the HD
2) Use DVD2One to transcode the DVD9 files to DVD5 Files
3) Burn with Nero

Other's are also having great luck with Pinnacle Instant Copy in the place of DVD2One.

Sorry for not providing links, but I'm on my way out of the house

If they are less than 5.5 to 6 gigs I'll use DVD Decrypter,DVD2One, and Nero like codehack2 does. But if it is larger then that I use DVDXCopy becuase I do not want to degrade the video quality too much.

If your an audio/videophile than you will want to use DVD X Copy and 2 discs. It has been my experience though, that if you are just watching movies on an average size tv w/o a progressive scan DVD player than degrading the movie to 70 or 80 percent is just fine and barley noticable in some spots. Good luck. Either option is a winner.

Just wondering ..... if we compress the size of the movie to fit on one disk ... what is compromised ... VIDEO or AUDIO? ... or BOTH?

What settings in Nero do you guys use after encoding with DVD2One?

I downloaded the trial version of Copy toDVD and all you have to do is point it to where the files you encoded are and it does the rest automaticaly,I think it's kind of slick but since I already own Nero I cann't see paying $30 once the trial period is up
