The official information about C2 Stepping from Intel is:

Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family Specification Update

(if you have not seen it). Needless to say there is no mention on OC. From this document, C1 stepping exists only for P965 chipset. G965/Q965/Q963 are all C2 stepping. I don't know when P965 C2 boards are available. The new ASUS P5B-E is C2 stepping (according to talks in a thread at XS Forums).

I notice the Asrock Conroe865PE motherboard is Core2 compatible, but I'm wondering about it running only DDR400 memory. Does this mean the CPU would run at an underclocked FSB of 200 MHz instead of 266 MHz, in which case the performance of Core 2 Duo will be drastically reduced?

No, you don't have to worry. Intel 865PE originally supports only FSB800 CPUs. However ASRock Conroe865PE overclocks automatically to FSB 1066MHz by adjusting jumpers correctly. I don't know how memory runs in asynchronous mode with this board, but again you shouldn't have to worry about DRAM frequency unless you manually adjust FSB in BIOS (I mean OC).

T2050 is 65 nm, FSB 533 MT/s, Clock Speed 1.60GHz, 2MB L2, no support for Virtualization Technology. This processor appears only in one place at the Intel site:

Good Job! Is T2050 a huge downgrade from T2300E? I need a new laptop for my university only.. Most laptops (in my budget range) are equipped with T2050 especially on Amazon.

Major difference is FSB (533 MT/s vs. 667 MT/s). There are not enough benchmark results. General Performance - SYSmark 2004 scores for Core 2 Duo (Desktop/Mobile) are

E6600 (2.40 GHz, 1066 MT/s): 322
T7600 (2.33 GHz, 667 MT/s): 260

FSB ratio is 1066/667 = 1.6 and score ratio is 322/260 = 1.25. FSB ratio of T2300E to T2050 is 667/533 = 1.25. From this analolgy the performance ratio of T2300E to T2050 would be less than 1.1, not that big.
