gyranthir, that link you posted for the ballistix deal at newegg is an e-mail promotion that only you can use. Also, I think you'll see the price for those sticks was $312 with the discount, not $279. As for the link you posted for zipzoomfly, didn't you read just a couple of posts up that they are now shipping with the inferior D9DCL chip? Still, I know you were only trying to help...

Man this is irking me. Even Crucial is playing this bait and switch game with its chips, and as far as I can tell there's no of finding out what you will get before you order (I went to Crucial and tried to look up specs- but it was a no go). You pay for a Ferrari, and you may well end up with a Ford engine under the hood. What BS!

They're keeping the more in-demand and expensive chips for their highest rated sticks, and to sell to other manufacturers at a premium. It's hardly "BS" when what you're actually paying for is the rated speed, and anything past that is both up to you to engineer via overclocking (and voiding the warranty by running it past what it is rated for) and trying to buy an item and hoping for a specific chip inside that will supposedly run over what it's guaranteed to run at is a gamble anyway.

Actually the promotion is not, it was a max usage promo code, it's just over now, it ended on the 15th. I snagged the promotion link off of the hardforums and when I noticed that the memory was also mispriced I snagged it.

I got the ram for 270.98 shipped and now its back up to $375.99

That crucial ram is still nice, and still a chance of D9GMH, they other D9 chips don't suck either, they aren't just as highly rated.

Buffalo Firestix have a chance of being D9GMH, so does Gskill,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146563
$339 isn't too bad for PC2 8000

http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/ A lot of this ram is a roll of the dice to see if you get good ram or not good ram. Gotta remember you get what you pay for.

Hey Heatpipe, this guy used the same link and used a promo code to get lower price too, i's not just for 1 person.

Actually no.

There are a select few non-Micron Firestix that got loose in the wild, but since then there have been many more purchased that use D9GMH.
Just look at XS if you don't believe me.

Also, Buffalo has mentioned on XS that they are still using Micron on the DDR2-800 kit, so who knows where the non-Micron kits came from, but as a general rule, the Firestix are still D9GMH.

We haven't changed the chips on that part from Micron to anything else.

Hi all. I've been away from the forums for a few months and was hoping that yoxxy's memory guide was being updated as things change. Can anyone recommend a similar roundup resource? I was going to buy the Team xTreems and wanted to know if time has moved something else into a superior position. Here's a pasting of yoxxy's E6600 recommendations:

Midrange: Team xTreem PC2-6400 (4-4-4-10) (D9GMH) (2.2v)*($287.38) ($275.00)
Crucial Ballistix DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) (5-5-5-15) (D9GMH) (2.2v) ($309.99)
High-End:Teamgroup TXDD2048M1000HC5DC PC2-8000 (5-5-5-15) (D9GMH) (2.4v)* ($344.85)
G.SKILL F2-8000PHU2-2GBZX PC2-8000 (5-5-5-15) (D9GKX) (2.2v) ($359.99)

thanks all
