Few sticks have SPD that won't boot. I believe in my Infinity my C3's wouldn't boot. They are 3-4-3-9-22 800 mhz. I tried enough and got one stick to boot though.

All C2d's clock about the same. There are the supposed B steppings that may or may not be a bit better.

That's a motherboard thing. PC3200 is 184 pin DDR RAM, most Conroe motherboards use 240 pin DDR2 RAM. There is at least one board that includes support for older hardware as well as newer (though not at the same time). As far as other motherboards that support both C2D and older hardware, I don't know.

PC2-3200 is 400 mhz DDR2. It does exist. I have not seen it work for C2D as of yet. That does not mean there isnt a board that iwll support. Possibly the P5WDH, but my guess is no.

I got me some GeIL DDR2-800 memory from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144028). They run at 4-4-4-12 and from what I hear, they are D9 chips.

yes the Ultra series is D9GMH.

I didn't find them mentioned in either the guide or n7's DDR2 Ram list.

That RAM has Elpida Chips..... they are OK.... but not Micron D9

Yeah that's Elpida...you'll be lucky to get to DDR2-850 speeds with that stuff

The 10th anniversary stuff was cheaper

That & it was believed to be handpicked, which in theory means better overclocks.

However, both are Micron D9GMH, & i believe very good overclocks will still be achievable.

According to this Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300 2GB Kit :

.. have broken the 1 GHz barrier with an incredible 1024 MHz, while still retaining the CL4 timings ... For reasons discussed a few pages ago it's not likely that it'll be stickied, and there's no ways the mods haven't seen it yet. So some rascals seem to keep posting in it every day for whatever reason and bump it up the front page.
