Also, what's with the motherboard getting hot too? Is the heatsink on the Asus P5B bad or something? It's teh vanilla version btw.
Right now my temps are stabilzing at 62C idle and 39C for the mobo.

The most important aspect to thermal transfer is a SOLID contact. This is achived with pressure. The only way to achive this pressure is with a solid connection between your HSF and the CPU heatspreader!
Thermal past is only for filling in the microscopic pits and imperfections of the heat spreader (top metal part of the CPU). Gobs of thermal past is actualy counter-productive.
Again, the most important thing is a SOLID contact. If you can move the HSF then you DO NOT have a good contact and your CPU will get HOT!
Mine is idle at 27 and under 8 hours dual prime gets up to 38c!
