Core 2 Duo Photoshop test

Hi Guys,

To continue from a post from last year, I'd like to see how much faster these new Core 2 Duo chips are at performing the given Photoshop test.

Using Photoshop CS or CS2 (or PS 7)
==================================================

1.) Download the test image from http://powerthings.com/pics/test.jpg

2.) Save it to the computer and then open it up in Photoshop

3.) From there please apply a 'radial blur' with the settings at:

Amount = 100
Blur Method = Spin
Quality = Best

Use a stop watch or manual timer to see how long it takes to apply this filter

In most cases as before, computer with more memory seems to perform a bit better. CS2 gives the fastest scores, then CS, and PS7 after that.

For comparison of Intel's "older" chip, the score of my dual-core Pentium D - 3.0 GHz w/ 2 GB Ram is 48 seconds.

My Opteron did this in 25 seconds... I'd like to see this too.

My old computer (A64) did it in 81 seconds!

Edit: I have CS version.

My E6400 @ 3.5 finished it in 18sec.

My A64@2.6 did it in 28 seconds, but I'm doing a few other things in the background so.... (used CS2)

It took 1:09 on my venice @ 2420MHz
I'm gonna compare it to my x2-4200+ when it comes next week
this also answers my question here, cause if a dual core opteron @ 2750 could do it in 25 seconds then mine should have taken about 35 but this clearly shows that PS takes advantage of the second core

Since you're not recieving private messages...I wanted to ask you about this but I will just post it here.

I've had my 2100 and an 1800 for years but never attempted it out of fear of frying the cpu. I've tried Google but nothing useful comes up. Is there any websites anyone could recommend? I'm sorry if this is completely inappropriate, but I didn't want to make a new thread if I didn't have to.

As for the test: 3 minutes flat on an Athlon XP 2100

The best I can do is 27 seconds. What in the world is holding me back?

I'm glad you brought this up. In fact, when I saw your original thread (which I've just posted in) it brought me to recall this benchmark which I thought may give some insight to the usefulness of dual-core processing for Photoshop.

Your X2 scores will definitely improve upon the current score you are getting.
