The original thread indicates the built in Photoshop timer is inaccurate.

A travel alarm clock indicated my Opteron 175 completed the test in 37 seconds using CS2.

It took 1:09 on my venice @ 2420MHz
I'm gonna compare it to my x2-4200+ when it comes next week
this also answers my question here, cause if a dual core opteron @ 2750 could do it in 25 seconds then mine should have taken about 35 but this clearly shows that PS takes advantage of the second core

The only thing this "proves" is that every MB/Disk/windows installation is different. Are you really just comparing the CPU, or the chipset and subsystems as well? The same cpu may perform 20% differently on different motherboards. So the most anyone can get out of this is that the new intel stuff is pretty fast.

you're right, so next week when I get my x2 I'll overclock it to exactly what my venice is at (everything else will be exactly the same) and I'll post my results

I just upgraded to a 4200+ it is currently at stock and it took me 36 seconds which is just slightly longer than half of what it took my venice at a faster speed (2420 MHz) - 69 seconds so with the same chipset, OS, mobo, and HD it is safe to say that Photoshop CS2 uses the second core to the max

31 seconds (30.56 seconds when I stopped the timer) with my system (in sig).

And that was on CS2.

Does anyone know if there are reviews of the Core 2 Duo out there with more Photoshop tests? I need to build a screaming fast Photoshop machine next week and I'd love to see what's been written up about Photoshop on the Core 2 Duo.

opteron 165@2.6ghz
2gb ram

33secs with cs2

I dont know why people keep speculating if it uses both cores. Open up the window task manager while you are doing the blur and you can obviously see that both is maxed out.

Core 2 Duo outperforms the X2 in Photoshop test by the reviews but by the look of this thread...Core 2 Duo=X2 clock for clock

QFT!
what the heck! it seems like C2D's only advantage is that it can oc to higher speeds but clock for clock it's the same (in photoshop)

My x2 3800+ at 2.6ghz was 10seconds slower than my e6400 at the same speed (likely could be memory and other factors). My x2 3800+ is socket 939 using DDR500
