I have a Gigabyte GA965P-S3 and Gskill PC8000 DDR1000 memory @ 500 @ 1:1 (2000 FSB it says) Load 51C. Idle 40c with a big Typhoon @1.4vcore and .2 upped for the northbridge and dimms. How much more could I get out of this ? What should I change ? This seems great to me.

Lucky SOB

Passes Orthos?

I can run my E6400 @ 3.5 GHz (am right now actually) for everything (3DMocks, SuperPI dual 32M, games, encoding, etc.) stably, but it just won't even get a few seconds on Orthos unless i back down to ~ 3.42 GHz...

If I wasn't going to Cabo I would be there helping you find its limit....good job...I think 1.5v is still in the safe range for the cpu and 2.3v for the ram....keep pushing I know there is probably more left....I couldn't even get my E6300 to post at 7x500 (no matter voltages, and timings) so you have a real winner here....

mine will post up to 503 fsb , not memtest stable. it needs a bios update perhaps to make stability . i am limited to 490 fsb now with my e6300 with voltage at 1.4

Mark good job on teh OC.

You could always raise the vcore to 1.45-1.475 safely. But after a while it might not be worth it to go extra 100mhz at a sacrifice of long term cpu life expectancy (if that matters for you).

What is the stock vcore for E6300 btw?

Well. the vcore is set to 1.45 in bios, but with both cores at full load it goes down to 1.4. If I wasn;t so sick today, I might play more.It does the 2414 F@H units un exactly half the time as it did @ 2 ghz. I did have to put a fan on the northbridge and southbridge as the heat sinks were HOT.

1.64GHz o/c is quite a feat Mark. Nice. Is everything stable at 3.5GHz?

well, its job in life is F@H, and it has been doing 2 units (one on each core) for 24 hours, no early unit ends or anything. If it stays that way for a week, I may pump it a bit higher.

Edit: I just tried 510 up from 500, upped the vcore, and it wouldn;t even post. I am happy at 3.5 !

Stick with 3.5ghz from a E6300, that's almost a 100% oc (from 1.8) and it's from a chip costing under $180

I don't see you needing a faster CPU for a longggg time.

Wow, nice OC. I can't wait to see what will be possible with some of the future ATI and Nvidia (no not the 590) boards coming out for Conore.

1. nice oc indeed.
2. guess ill never understand why ppl spend that much money for ddr2 1000 ram. just get ddr2-800 and an E6600 and u would still save lots of money while reaching same oc results. but like i said, ur oc is nice, though expensive.

$440 for good OC DDR2 1000 RAM + $183 for E6300 = $623
$305 for good OC DDR2 800 RAM + $315 for E6600 = $620

Which will give you more bang for your buck? I'm not sure. Depends on your luck, I guess.

Using those items, getting the E6600 will give you better bang for buck.

However, you don't need to buy DDR2-1000 necessarily.
Good DDR2-667 or DDR2-800 can reach 1000 w/ a little OCing.
There are kits that are damn near guaranteed that result too, like Team Group's stuff.

So then the difference in price is between the CPUs & mobos, not RAM, since the E6600 generally doesn't seem to do quite as well on the cheaper P965 mobos.

The 6600 is like $150 more than the 6300, and the ram was only $180. Not that much more than most 800 sticks. So total for mobo, cpu, memory,HSF is $520 for a box that is literally twice as fast as my X2 3800's@ ~2.2-2.3

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the "$305 for good OC DDR2 800 RAM" are based on Micron D9 GKXs, in which case $305 + $183 = $488 = best bang for buck, especially if you get an overclock like Marks.

Very impressive results btw mark... i've got a Gigabyte S3 and a E6400 here (just waiting on my damn PSU to arrive), hopefully i'll do half as well. IMO, try for even higher, but if higher volts don't give you much better results and/or increase temps too much, 3.5Ghz is still damn good.
