of course microcenter offers both e8400/motherboard cpus and this the week I'm out of the country.

To rub it in newegg is now offering $5 off the Q8200. I guess 164.99 is almost 100...

I paid $189 for this and i feel like i got a good deal.

You guys are forgetting this CPU is really just a 45nm Q6600. It performs identically to it. Overclocking also brings some interesting results. Almost every benchmark shows my Oc to 2.9ghz is equal to a Q6600 at 3.2ghz.

I didn't, that's how...

And cancelled! No VT support, lamest thing ever on a quad core...

man that is weird. Why would they do that?

Also does it really provide much of a benefit, when running vms?

It's required for some VMs - like 64 bit guests, hyperv, and running windows vms using Xen.

Except each core has half the cache.

There are 8 (7 now) in Cambridge, as of this morning. Probably people ordering and either not picking up or canceling their orders.

Thanks for the update. Looks like it's down to 5 now.

My brother has an Abit IP35-E mobo which currently has a E4500, any idea if a Q8200 will work? Since, they're out of the mobo business, I doubt they have come out with any recent bios updates.

Got online ordering (to store pickup) working today, and they hold for 3 days. If anyone has one anywhere local or can make arrangements for someone to pick it up, i say go for it

For those looking to get these and your local store doesn't have them, don't give up until the promo is over. They may get more in stock, you can get an idea if you just swap locations in the drop down menu. Their HQ and main warehouse/distribution centers are in OH (not sure if they have a West Coast warehouse or not), so you can get an idea of stock by checking the OH and following geographic patterns from there. As jjimIII noted, there's plenty in stock at his location and every other OH location as they're all near the distribution center. East coast and Midwest folks can probably expect more stock today or tomorrow, so keep an eye out. I already went through similar tracking their i7 after the April 1st burn-off.

Well, it is a new toy at a great price. Neither chip has VT support, and I doubt you'll get the q8200 stable at 3.5. It has a very low multipler (7x333). Personaly I'd do it just for the fun. It should do 3ghz, plus has 4mb vs 3mb cache.

Most stores are limiting one per customer, so good luck with that plan.

I guess that is why I'm bringing my brother with me who has no use....

True, but it hardly makes a difference. It has 4MB, which is more then adequate. With the higher FSB speeds, it accesses the cache and memory much faster and more efficiently. Most benchmarks prove this.
