It has less cache and lower multiplier. I think it would hit similar speeds as the q6600, but you would need very high fsb. It is about $90 cheaper than the 6600 though.

microcenter has been OOS of this chip everywhere since the first week of march, and the q9300's have been out of production for awhile now.

I have both near me and have never said that...

Fry's can't beat Micro Center's everyday CPU prices, and definitely doesn't beat these advertised deals. And when Fry's does clear out old CPUs, they're usually quite old tray CPUs like the Q6700s they were clearing out a while back.

Micro Center can afford to do this because they mark up other components that you end up buying in-store anyway. Think of it as a very nice icebreaker.

As for the deal being dead. I did see one appear at the Kansas City location a couple days ago, so maybe a handful still trickle out on occasion.

I got my q9300 up to 3.5GHz, which I'm pretty happy with, I paid $160 for it tho.

Never heard anything regarding this, and a Google search came up with nothing.

I've had my q9300 for 4-5 months and no issues, good OC'er, my e8400 before it got up to 3.8GHz, but it was worth it to me to lose the 300Mhz for 2 more cores.

You know, I have a MC about an hour away not too close but not that far away for a stellar deal). And I often find myself saying "Damn, why can't MC have deals like that" when I see all the Frys Hot deal threads. Processors, maybe an occasional PSU or HD are all MC can compete with IMO. Per their flyer, every Monday they check the price of their competitors processors and lower their own. They've been blowing everyone away with the prices of their i7 920, Q8200, e7400, ect.....
