I understand that universities want their students to be "well rounded," but required classes are a drag and seem never ending. Am I the only one who feels so?

It's just you. Your required classes are required for your degree. That's why they are called required classes. They typically are functional to your major or school division.

I don't know what you're talking about.
Classical Mythology has served me well in both my life and career.

I am currently looking for any way to put off my last gen ed requirement until next semester. I'd rather spend this semester in the seventh circle of hell then take this ethnomusicology class.

Honestly - I liked my English and Humanities/Social Science classes more than I liked the classes specific to my degree (IT).

Actually the core classes tend not to be "well rounded" classes. I think you thinking of the required humanities classes, unless your degree is already in that, then science classes might be you required electives. Where I went they had some history classes that counted so I took the one for WW2, that was a good class.

They do. See: Shaquille O'Neal.

OP: Do you mean "Core" classes or GE classes? You said core/pre req, but it sounds like you mean GE.

There's a big difference.

And yes, there is something worse than GE classes: core classes that aren't really core classes.

Meh, I usually like them. I've been taking a few classes that aren't required for my major, just for the hell of it. I'm taking econ and political science right. this is actually my second psc class, and they've both been awesome.

He's talking about gen eds, not major classes.

I'm not sure how much I actually benefited from gen eds, because I generally have a desire to learn those sorts of things on my own. I didn't learn anything in my history or literature or political science classes that I wouldn't have read on my own by now. My gen ed physics class was really just a repeat of my high school physics class, though it was shockingly difficult for most of my classmates. I don't remember what other gen eds I had to take; my major required some stuff that covered gen ed requirements, like calculus.

I definitely think gen eds are valuable to people who wouldn't learn that stuff on their own. Frankly, I think it's sad that so many people are happy with being ignorant.

Oh yeah, I benefited greatly from my bowling class. Increased my average and my lifetime high score by 50 points each.

I think my sociology class was beneficial too.

I'm a freshman now, and I'm taking a couple gen ed's. I really don't care at all about psychology, but at least the teacher is hot as fuck.

Some of the options to meet specific general education requirements left me shaking my head at the sheer stupidity...

BUT, things such as English and Math requirements made sense...even if you weren't an English or Math major.
MOST fields require you to be able to write with some sense of "readability," and at least basic Math understanding is good for everyone. (I didn't need math beyond Math 50-business math) to graduate. ) BUT, if I want to transfer on to a 4-year school, I'll need at least Math 101. (college algebra--AKA "Fuzzy Math" to me)

You should pick better electives that interest you.

I had some great classes that definitely made me a smarter, more well rounded person.

Film as literature
American Literature
Cultural Anthropology
Intro to phyiscal Anthropology
Psychology
Women & Gender in Chinese Literature
