In this thread - I made a lighthearted joke in response to someone else mentioning Rippetoe. It also contained a thinly-veiled suggestion to not bother making those comments, because this would be the result.
In the threads you linked - in one I made an offhand comment and then actually contributed information to the thread, attempting to answer the OPs question. In the other thread, I made another lighthearted joke in response to several people high-fiving each other about their love of Starting Strength.
None of those posts created the unpleasant environment you suggest, and I in fact DO generally respond to the OP's post, with more contextual information than the link-post-crew does.
Regardless, it takes two to tango. Whenever one of these threads spirals out of control into not-on-topic banter like this one has, is a robot auto-posting for you, or are you actively contributing to this "unpleasant environment"? If you don't like that someone made an off-hand remark about Rippetoe, and then proceeded to give a lot of his own opinion, as jack ryan did, or as I have done in the past, maybe you should just ignore it yourself?
Its simple. Rippetie gets mentioned a LOT in this forum. Sometimes more than is necessary. Hell, brikis, glib as you might have been while doing it, you once posted that Starting Strength should be required reading before entering a gym or posting here! The response for that will be people commenting on how often he's mentioned. Your options are A) ignore it and move on with the thread, B) get defensive and throw a fit whenever someone does it, or C) mention him less.
My guess is option A would probably be best for everyone involved - its the avenue I've taken more lately, and frankly, should be the avenue you take. Instead, you choose B - which does indeed lead to a lengthy, off-topic flame war, and the "unpleasant environment" you complain about.
So there you go.
