Core i7 980X doesn't seem much faster than Core i7 860?

Andy... this is where you just accept what others are saying, and admit a loss. ()

Your just digging yourself a deeper and deeper grave..
I agree with that X58 is more reasonable now in the US.

The price change is the truth. Why are you so %&^%$&$***? Why do you make such a mean comments like this which helps nothing but making other sad?

Most of the time you get what you pay for. Again, a generality, but in my case in this instance, it applies.

Mark you really need to listen to me on my board recommendations.

The last board i recomended you was one of the best boards u had..

You needed at least a Giggy UD5, or at least a eVGA LE.. although that board might not last very long in the conditions you put them through.

I am a firm hater of CRAPSUS 2009-2010.
Until they can show me they can make a durable board, and not a cheapo CRAPSUS board.
CRAPSUS = ASUS.

The price change is the truth. Why are you so %&^%$&$***? Why do you make such a mean comments like this which helps nothing?

Cuz your trying to bring out an apple, and a grape... and saying grapple is better.
LOL...

Were trying to tell you, a grape is a grape.. and an apple is an apple.

It is not the relationship between grape and apples!

They are more like the relationship between the best and 2nd BMW cars.

They are the same thing with different classes.

You don't see the performance gain of better i7 under most situations, just like you won't notice the speed difference between two cars in a speed limited road.

OK guys, knock off the personal attacks, and keep this thread on topic. Continue and I'll start handing out vacations.

Glade to see this post!

No comment is with dirty/rude words now.

Funny, acknowledging it then ignoring it reeks of hypocrisy. Of course so do the rest of your posts. Quoted for posterity.

Hope that i7 in the rest of the world can be sold at a price similar to the US. I envy you.

I know I went cheap this time, and I know the results. Thats OK, when I get my hex core, I will get what you recommend.

BTW, my 3 DQ6 boards are still running 24/7 100%loaded with a quad, and two video cards, no problems.

I'm assuming I should of spent more money on a board the the GA-P55-UD3 for my i7 860? it's being RMA'd right now anyway due to being DOA, should I tell newegg I want a refund and buy a better board for this chip?

are you sure its the board ? Have you tried known good memory ? one stick only ? in each of the slots ? A lot of people seem to like that board, but I don't own one, so all I can say is make sure thats really the problem before you send it back.

yeah extensive testing...basically the only new components to the build were the CPU, Heatsink, Board and Case...everything else was in my dell i7 rig I'm giving to my father since his computer died...so I built the one in my sig.

I did the basic steps, reset the CMOS, only plugged in the CPU, heatsink, 8 pin power and 24. The cpu fan wasn't even getting enough juice to turn on...tested another psu in it didn't work, for giggles put the Corsair in another i7 860 rig and it powered right up no problems.

I'm glad to hear people like the MB, hopefully when the new one comes it powers right up and I can say I successfully built my first rig

LOL, Mark this is a pretty funny thread. You wrote earlier that my 1156 is less "flexibile" (which I presume refers to an 1156 buyer having to buy a motherboard before using a hexcore). Using your words, "when I get my hex core, I will get what you recommend" also! Thus, your current flexibility and mine are Identical, and our current performance is identical. The only difference now is your bandwidth, which is the single vs dual vid card. Buying a second video card seems to be a waste of money to me as my games perform like flowing water.

For all you aspiring buyers, here's what I DON'T like about my 1156. Intel has published a limitation on Vtt that is much lower on i7 860 (1.21v) than on the Bloomfield. This has made it harder for me to reach a bclk of much higher than 190mhz. I'd prefer to clock at 200 rather than 190 as my ram could run at full rated speed. My ram is advertised at 1600mhz, but seems to get fussy at 1601! Bad luck on my part. So, I run ram at 1520.
In addition, some users have reported burning when overclocking using the original 1156 socket delivered from Foxconn. Mobo manufacturers resolved this by either using upgraded Foxconn sockets or by switching socket brands, so you can avoid this, but you have to know about it.

uhhh...

I am the ultra high end gamer.

So no a P55 is not the platform for me.

I am running 4 gpu's in Xfire.. 2 x HD4870X2, and i would see / feel a difference on a P55 vs a X58.

You guys are trying to pick a fight with the top of the top intel line, with a top consumer line.

That is what doesnt make sense.. and why i pulled up the toyota vs Lexus agruement.

If you want to compare a toyota vs lexus... at least make them simular.

My Classy E759 would rape ANY P55 board in existance. There isnt even a competition between the two board classes.

This is the arguement you guys are trying to bring in.

Yes it will but its iops is about 15% slower across the board than the P6T6/P6T7 boards. Your memory timings are a little bit slow too.

Wow Aigo...sounds like you really have built an amazing box. Of course, setting your sites on such a machine you would go for the 1136.
I'd be interested in how you experience the value of 4 4870 gpus. Its clear that benchmarking tools will show higher scores, so that's not interesting to me. No, what I'd appreciate is learning what experiences you have running applications that are markedly different on your box vs just 2 4870s in xfire, and again the question for just 1 4870? And what are those applications that work so differently with your gpu setup?

No one on the forum will ever include me in any stat because i am always outside of the stat range.

I am always running 1 gen tech Ahead in cpu then everyone else. (so i am labeled a cheater )

See the gulftown is trying to take over my fortress of pwnage... and already has!!!

And ruby, your crapsus can be at the bottom of the ocean floor for all i care.
Because you will have problems running the older Gulftown's while mine had support right out of the box.

Whats funny is i think im the only one who posted in this post that actually has a 980 in his hands.

Is it fast? Yes its fast.
Is it faster then my 975.. only in some applications.
Is it cooler then my 975? whats funny is it is... 32nm they did with heat values.
Is it a better clocker? Well my first gulftown wasnt (my 975 was a monster clocker)... however this new one might be.. my sponsor said Monster followed by the 980.

If you have the budget range for a Hexcore, then i dont think you would even look at a i7 860.

I won't even be running that board.
I've used the Classified and it's just not as good as the Asus boards for iops. You don't know since you're storage limited.

I have no interest in 1366 after this iteration anyways. I want no less than two sockets and 64GB RAM in the next build. Probably four sockets and 256GB RAM to be honest. No water cooling allowed but not needed since there is no overclocking on true workstation products. Pity. But the IOPS will soar like an eagle. At least the single socket weasels on the ground don't have to worry about getting sucked into a jet engine - but you may drown when your hoses leak!

To be fair, you are cherry-picking CPU price by going with a B&M store. The 920 at Newegg is $289.

Nope, Both have to be picked up at the store. Equal comparison IMHO. If I were cherry picking, I would have used Froogle which showed pricing UNDER the $199 I used.
Why this wasn't locked looong ago is a mystery to me.

I wanted to, but I got sucked in.... ()

Yeah trollism is like a million ton freight train doing mach2 next to a pond you're ice skating on and when it approaches you cannot help getting sucked into it creating a "mellofahess" of a trainwreck that has everyone wondering how it happened in the first place.

At least with all the ice and snow around the burns don't hurt as bad.

Pish.. no overclocking?

I should be getting one....

Possibly...

Maybe...

I need 2xQpi Gulfy's for it tho... ()
