I7 is the superior CPU and therefore performs best on CPU tests, which is why Intel use the CPU portion of the original benchie as the basis for their claim. That Graphics play a major part for gamers should be obvious to all.
What our nVidia friend may not have properly relayed, is that the i7 and X58 chipset also provide superior scaling in multi GPU settings:
