Considering neither the 9700K nor 9900K is readily available yet, might be best to not jump the gun on buying your other components unless you run across a deal...

I'm not getting anything until December 1st. So I have time to weigh my options.

Some are saying the IMC is weaker on the 9900k and other 9-series chips versus the 8-series chip. So I'm not sure that super-expensive RAM will pan out as well on a 9900k versus 8700k. Either that, or we need updated UEFIs for Z370 boards or Z390 boards to compensate. It may also be that the RAM OEMs need to update their XMP settings.

For gaming, resolution matters too. I went from DDR4 2666 to 4133 on my 8700K and didn't even see 1% increase in fps in gaming.

GPU limited? I see better gains going from 2666 CL12 to 3333 CL15, but I game at 1080P ultrawide and don't run at totally GPU limited settings (ie. 'high' rather than 'ultra')

Probably GPU limited. Though if it helped anything, I would expect smoother overall gameplay due to higher minfps.

That's exactly what I have been doing - just searching out deals and buying as things go on sale and such for the past 2 months. Just grabbed an MSI 1080 ti Gaming X for $520 - used on eBay of course, but a pretty sweet deal regardless.

Kind of what I have been doing, lol. The past 5 months I have been buying my components for my build piece by piece and getting sales and such. All that's left is the motherboard and CPU and I'm waiting until December for both of those.

I'm thinking about sending my motherboard back, what's a good one what that is affordable?

I was thinking
Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro

Is it any good?

Any significant benefit at 3440x1440p if I move to a 9900k? Or should just hold till next year?

Might? Next week? Ouch.

The 8700k did suffer some delays last year, but Intel had fairly broad retail availability of the chips by Nov 2017. 9-series chips are doing much worse.

Can the turbo be adjusted on these new chips? I mean, for example, the 9900K will do 5Ghz on 2 cores and 4.7? on all 8 physical cores. If you increased the turbo to +300Mhz, does everything move up that step amount? So you would have 5.3Ghz on 2 cores, and 5Ghz on 8 cores? It has been a while since I have built a new system, so I am wondering what has changed on the overclocking front. I have tried to look at guides, but they don't seem to provide exactly the detail I want.

Edit ** Still curious on the Turbo question. But I did find a pretty cool guide from a reddit post.

Granted, it is specific to Gigabyte boards, but I am sure there is some cross over.

I'd follow a general overclocking guide, not that Gigabyte guide.

I'd like to buy one of these CPUs. Does anyone here actually posses one yet?

I've been doing turbo overclocks on my 8086K. Nothing super high. Just mild clocks. 5.0GHz 1 core, 4.9GHz 2 cores, and 4.8GHz for 6 cores. It works great and runs cool.

In my country the 8700k is 40% more expensive now than it was during the first few weeks after launch. "Worse" is an euphemism.

Yeah, I snagged one from Microcenter this morning, running great.

corsair sf600

I ran a stock blend test for about 5 minutes, was around 70-75C. I only have 3 fans though, haha. 2 on the CPU, and 1 kind of pulling hot air out. I'll probably add a 90mm for exhaust, and maybe 2 120's on the bottom pushing up.

What do you want to know?

Thanks for sharing your experience! Those load temps are not bad actually considering it's on air in a moderately ventilated case.

We need more builds to get a better idea on load temps with retail chips, but it seems like the need for a big AIO just to run it at stock has been a bit exaggerated. Overclocking is a different story, however. Are you planning to do any overclocking at all? I would strongly advise staying close to stock volts if you do.
