Core M is available but no Anandtech review? Seems strange.

I have used the 7140 for three weeks and am keeping it. Huge improvement over my 5130 but same great battery life and fanless design. Plays a lot of games smoothly that choked on the 5130 and plays a lot of games with the Dolphin emulator smoothly. Not seeing throttling that would hinder game performance so far.

Complex pivot tables also are handled better.

Uses the same battery/keyboard dock as the 5130.

There is also no whisper of a surface3 update with core-m.
Microsoft tends to be quiet about that kind of stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if it just showed up one day. I hope it's soon though. Then the haswell pro 3 will be cheaper :sneaky:

Given the performance shown by current Core M products, that could only be a replacement for the lower end Surface Pro 3 model. I don't think we'll see anything before Broadwell U is released.

How would Core-M compare to Core 2 Duo ?

Performance wise.
Consider Low TDP Core 2 Duo (Like Penryn based laptops at 25 TDP processor)

This. I would expect the SP3 to use an ULV Broadwell, when they are available.

Broadwell-Y (-U also possible) = Broadwell ULV, although Wiki speaks of Haswell ULT (ultra low TDP) and ULX (ultra low eXtreme TDP).

There is an i3 "review" already linked in another thread in this forum.

Granted though, since Anand left, and even some time before then perhaps, reviews have been very spotty on AT. I hardly ever go to the home page, reviews are generally
perfunctory at best, and of weird products that dont really interest me. I basically just come to the forum and try to get as much information as possible, after filtering out the fanboyism from both sides, naturally.

Perhaps when Anandtech does it's anual Call for Writers, I should take them up on it this time. :\

Pretty obvious that Intel is only going to send them the K models to review. Make sense, after all that's what Intel wants you to buy. The 960 and 950 is a bit more strange as to why they never did a review though.

They can pretty much get all the models they want. Its sites selecting not to review. Mid/lower end is simply not as "attractive" to review. And value is pretty much impossible to find.

They'd have to buy it. In case I wasn't clear, AT is not going to review it unless Intel sends a review sample for free.

Are there any reviews of Skylake Y (Core M) published on the Internet? So far I've found none. Not of products using it either. And it's been two months since release.

That's really weird...

I guess it is unrealistic, but really, all the review sites should buy the hardware they test anyway. I mean, after all, compared to a reviewer's salary, what is a cpu/motherboard or even a high end dgpu? Not to mention, that they could write off the cost as a business expense.

Or maybe all these review sites really are run out of somebody's basement on a shoestring with no full time staff, IDK.

If you're getting a review unit for free from the manufacturer, how do you know it hasn't been cherry picked by the manufacturer? Especially if it's a product that may vary between different units, like overclockable CPUs, or LCD TVs with clouding/flashlighting, etc.

AT can get it for FREE.

Seems like Intel isn't particular fussed about people reviewing this model. Makes sense- the only people who read these sites are tech nerds, and they want to upsell us on the "Enthusiast" chips. Send out a handful of overclocking i5/i7 parts and whip up a geek frenzy about a niche part, while quietly shipping millions of i3s to Dell.

We are still waiting for the memory part of Skylake I think. Not to mention all the other missing reviews of this and that.

So to put it a bit rough, Intel could dump a truckload of i3s at the front door and we most likely still wouldn't see a review.

And I can understand sites cherry picking the best product to review if they dont feel they have the time or manpower. Because as you say, we want to see the best products.
